Arrow Tech-trance

I have two questions. 1) Does anyone know any good tech-trance sites or sites that have tech-trance tracks, sets, etc and 2) what is tech-trance a subcategory of? trance or techno? is tech-trance known under any other genre names? Thanks in advance to anyone that can help.

IMO, Tech Trance is somewhere between Trance & Techno and I don't really think it has any other genre's as it already goues under the genre of Tech Trance. I don't know of any real sites that specialise in Tech Trance, but the odd few tracks pop up on various sites.

Mauro Picotto's sets are a good example of Tech Trance, and some tracks to look out for are "Saccoman - The Recall [Picotto's Answer Mix]" & "Mario Piu - Mathmos [Black Side]"

Hope this helps...

I think Tilt and even Digweed can be considered tech trance. Either that or progressive house...it is a fine line though....a tough call.

Well I personally wouldn't call Picotto tech-trance...

When I think of tech-trance, I think of Max Graham, Sasha, Sander K....

Somewhere between progressive and normal trance. Has the melodies of regular trance with the abjectedness and progression of progressive trance. Picotto's style is too hard-house influenced and not melodic enough to be considered tech-trance.

This is a quote from an MOS interview with Picotto...

Why do you have so many pseudonyms - how do the sounds and styles differ?

I have many styles to my production. There is a dark underground style that I personally love. There is a housey style but pumping ( Clasixx). I have a melodic tech trance style. I also do some really techno stuff.

I don't see Picotto as tech trance. I classify him as hard trance...a banging techno if you will.

Tech trance is reserved for the likes of Sander K, Steve Lawler, Breeder...etc.

I didn't say HE was tech trance, I said in his sets he PLAYED Tech-Trance. It's just a harder style of it. I agree Sasha & John Digweeds style is Tech Trance too, but I guess there is just variations of it or what we think it is. Stupid genres, they cause nothing but confusion anyway.

Yes! You are right, they do cause nothing but confusion!

Let's just leave it at what we all think personally about genres...

Yeah.

Classifying genres is a pretty subjective thing anyway, let's just leave it be. It's easy enough to split into house and trance, but once you start getting into these subgenres (that blur the lines between house and trance anyway) it can get a bit complicated.....
