In plain English you need the following two things:an emulator and roms.
An emulator is basically the "console". And roms are known as "games" You can download emulators at www.freeroms.com. They also have roms but the majority of them are down due to a java error.
The following websight is where I get all of my NES (Nintendo Entertainment System) emulators and roms.
I hope that you find this very basic explanation helpful.

I always found it hard to find roms that worked, had a pretty cool SNES emulator, but nothing to play on it

One of my favorite sites for emulation is www.zophar.net
For Nintento games, I have found personally that FCE Ultra is the best emulator to use.
For SNES games, I use ZSNES and highly recommend it.
Finally for roms, you can find any rom for any system at anytime by using newsgroups.

I have tried many emulators, but this has been working without any bugs for 6 months now.

if youre on the oldominion dc hub, get my file list ([speakeasy]rizen). I have 618 NES roms shared and other roms for other consoles/arcades, along with the emulator program.
