Arrow video Game Music

Hello all,

Being my first post on this forum, I want to try and keep this as relevent to music as possible.

Let me talk to you about a video game hehe...

I was contacted by someone designing a video game for a non-profit organisation. It will be an RPG (kind of like final Fantasy).

I was very excited to take care of a music team that will be designing music for a pretty cool medievla fantasy game. I was wondering if anyone else would be interested.

My vision is to provide different styles because there is a wide array of gamers (with different musical tastes) that will be listening to the soundtrack.

I have a lot of DnB, some makeshift happy electronica with an industrial feel, some experimental electronica, and then some straight up gaming music. I would like to add some trance to that, so I was wondering if anyone would be intested in making some music that had a video game feel to it. It would be greatly appreciate.

Thanks for your time

Ummm, can you elaborate how do you plan to incorporate electronic music into a Fantasy RPG game? Now only how, but why??

if it's medieval shouldn't we stick with a medieval theme, or at least a symphony score?

i mean, would have LOTR:TT or FOTR be as an effective movie experience with trance or some other electronic music playing?

is electronic conduicive to that games environment?

yeah thats what I was wodnering
if your rpg isg going to be final fantasy-ish...

final fantasy is famous for having amazing soundtracks every single time
the epic orchestral scores fit the whole fantasy feeling
nobuoe (sp?) is a musical genius
i think trance would fit better in a sci fi game....

I disagree, trance would fit perfectly. You gotta remember that final fantasy's were not in a medievil setting (more suited to orchesta and strings) but were in a fantasy setting that encorporated machines and technology. This setting allows for more modern genres to fit nicely. A song that comes to mind is the boss battle theme in ffvii, it definately was not orchastra-ish.. but more electronic. Trance would give the game some energy, and would set a specific mood (depending on the situation in the game).

I think it's a great idea.

Yaaa man, I always hear electronic tracks and I seriously think "Wow, I wish they put tracks like these in games instead of the cheesy shit I hear all the time." I really do think about that!

I know what he's talking about. Not Final Fantasy music. There was this awesome tracking group called ToM (Torture of Music) back in the old days that did exactly this kind of music - it had a medieval atmospheric feel to it but also a beat with a kick. I still listen to those tracks for fun once a while, they really are trippy.

I've written some game tracks but they're more orchestral or electro style. For some reason I don't have much luck with pure epic trance. I could give it a shot though, if you've got a theme for us to work with.

i believe the reason why that song did not sound orchestral is because all the music in ffvii was in midi format (at least on computer, and the psx version is comparable so im going to clump it together)
if you listen to the actual cd soundtrack
its orchestral
