Re: 1962 Vatican Document to Keep Sexual Abuse Secret
Yep, coincidentally I saw it last night on CNN. They are doing their best to downplay the whole thing. I personally don't think it's a "smoking gun", so to speak, but it certainly hurts their credibility quite a bit. The fact that such a document exists which outlines secrecy in sexual misconduct amongst priests is pretty damning. Furthermore, the document was created around the time in which many of these priests were being hired, which to me may indicate the possibility that they might have had some foresight in their new employees (the priests). That's kinda conspiracy-theoryish, but they could have simply known this sexual misconduct problem was becoming more frequent back then. Either way doesn't make me feel much better. I donno. I guess if I was a Catholic, I would be pretty damn troubled by all of this, and would find it increasingly more difficult these days to ignore the sins of the priests and bishops and the Church as a whole.
