Thumbs down What "trance nation" ???!!

I just got back from Holland and I can tell you Trance is not really popular there! I was very surprised. In every single music store you could at most find a dozen Trance CDs, maybe Tiesto's ISOS and Nyana, maybe one AvB album, that's it. Forget about anything more, let alone imports. Tiesto, for instance, is not really popular there. When I asked every shop owner if they had any Trance they'd shake their head and say, "Nope - not my style." I went to a record store called "Strictly Dance Records", thinking I could get some Trance there, but the owner was enfuriated when I mentioned Tiesto, AvB, and Ferry to him: "They're awful! Trance is terrible. Why does everyone think Holland = Trance?" So I asked him, "This is called 'Dance Records'... what kind of music do you sell here, and listen to?" He said, "Soul. You should too."

Hell, even here in the States I can find a MUCH better selection of Trance, all styles. DAMN! Big surprise, and disappointment.

Very surprising.

As somebody from outside Holland (canada) i got the impression that they were big into trance. Any chance it was just that area?

no the popular thing just now is 'urban' LOL music.

which is so much commercial shit.

and yeh, like u said, all the little kids love what they think is trance cos they don't know better.

In germany i think they prefer techno. In holland they prefer hardstyle, which is terrible.

But it doesn't matter as long as there are enough people who still love trance, which there are.

I was in Amsterdam, and visited maybe 8 music stores in the center of the city (including a 'mega-store' called "Fame"), including a couple of smaller vinyl stores.

It wasn't any better in Schiphol-Rijk, where there is a mall inside the airport and a music store there.

Very surprising!

Get this people, -- I didn't even see a single Ferry Corsten CD! Serious!

in the uk we have many stores which have the genres house/prog/trance/hardhouse. then usually other genres like techno or garage depending on the tastes of the stores owners.

but you are almost garauntee dto find trance in any "dance" record store

altho you may find you have to look in the smallee sotres to find the decent tunes, most places like hmv have shitty commercilised tunes.
