go to the playlist...put the notes in...and push play

no, but seriously what do you mean...you need help figuring out the notes?? i don't know how much help you'll get there just because basslines are different from song to song...it really depends.

Is this a FruityLoops specific question, or just a how to get good basslines in general question? If it's a general question on basslines you might try searching the rest of this site using bassline as the keyword. Other sites that have good info are samplecity.net, futureproducers.com, and trance.nu(not as good).

Focus on two things, however, no matter where you look:
1.) Use a good synth to begin with. The Tau bassline synth won't give you a bassline like the SH-101 will.
2.) Think of the bassline as a claustorphobic person, if it doesn't have any room to breath, it dies. Use a combination of envelope tweaking, eq, and lastly, compression to get it just right. The addition of these give the bassline room to breath, a consistent sound, and eq can carve out sonic space where the bass can ensconce itself.

Even after you do this, there are still subtleties that will take years to learn. That's why most of us here aren't pro......yet.

Sorry Flot,the SH-101 is an analogue hardware synth that has a very distinctive and robust sound for basslines; however, the sound could probably be approximated. Above&Beyond use the ES2 for their basslines, too bad it is only in Logic.

i don't have a visual for you so this will have to do...

first off, listen to etherium's suggestions for the sound...he knows what he's talking about

second lets assume you have a sixteen step sequencer setup (the default setting). i'll just make it like this heehehe

----------------

so there's you possible notes. now in trance you have you basic kick beat which would be these notes...

x---x---x---x---

if you got that much, then the bassline, in its most basic form, is the off beats or...

x-b-x-b-x-b-x-b-

i really don't know what else to say...i would start here...mess around with adding more notes to the bassline and see what you come up with...to make a good song its gonna take a lot of time to figure out the bassline. i would say make your melody...try out your bassline underneath it..and if it sounds good then keep it...if not back to the drawing board.

Good topic here! Basses seem to bother so many people here, lol!
Yeah, cool tip from Floorfiller. Its the most basic bass sequence, yet one of the most pumpin and used for much songs Paul Van Dyk like, hehe
Heres a cool basic 3xOsc bass sample i made that can be tweaked and changed into many variations.
The bass sample must depend on the sequence and how much lines of bass u will use.
The way its described here, its very useful for that off-beat sequence that Floorfiller said.

Make a Blank 3xOsc and use these settings:

Osc 1:
Wave = Saw
SP = 40%
SD = 40%
CRS = 0% (-24 semitones)

Osc 2:
Wave = Square
SP = 25%
SD = 55%
VOL = 25%
CRS = 0% (-24 semitones)
FINE = 42% (-14 cents)

Osc 3:
Wave = Square
SP = 40%
SD = 45%
VOL = 35%
CRS = 0% (-24 semitones)
FINE = 53% (+8 cents)

Envelope Vol:
DEL = 0
ATT = 0
HOLD = 0
DEC = 19%
SUS = 0
REL = 19%

Envelope Cut:
DEL = 0
ATT = 0
HOLD = 0
DEC = 12%
SUS = 48%
REL = 3%
AMT = 59%

Filter:
CUT = 12%
RES = 100%
Type = SVF LPx2

Effects Settings:

Fruity 7 Band EQ:
63Hz = 0
250Hz = 1.3
500Hz = 1.9
1500Hz = 3.0
3kHz = 2.6
5kHz = -18
8kHz = -18

Fruity Compressor:
Threshold = -5.6
Ratio = 1.0:1
Gain = 9dB
Attack = 10.0ms
Release = 200ms
Type = Vintage

Fruity Reeverb:
LowCut = 75Hz
HighCut = 4.0kHz
PreDelay = 0ms
RoomSize = 18 Size
Diffusion = 0
Color = Flat
Decay = 0.2sec
HighDamping = 4.0kHz
Dry = 100%
Reverb = 20%

FruityDelay: (optional)
Input = 20%
Feedback = 26%
Cuttof = 80%
Tempo = Auto BPM
Steps = 1, 2, or 3, depending on your sequence
Mode = Ping Pong

Notes: To see the exact value of a knob, right-click and copy it, then, right-click it again and the value should appear next to "paste value". Some Knobs (like CRS) show their info and values in the fruity's tipbar.

The best way to change the sound is by tweaking the Filter settings (type, cut, res).

U can change very much the feeling of the sound by tweaking the SP of each wav form or rebalancing the volumes of the saw and square wavs.

Now just make a sequence at somewhere between the octaves 3 and 4

If u wanna use a more complex sequence with various instances of diferent bass, make them thinner so u can get enough frequence space for them without getting a muffled mix.
Also, the settings for the compressor and eq arent very accurate, redefine it to fit your needings on your mix.

Hope this helps
