Confused Intimidated by producing....don't know where to start.

Hey guys, here's whats up.

I have had this burning desire to share Trance with people and show people why I love it so much and it only continues to grow. My problem is that I don't know how to start doing this. I am still very young and would like to get into producing. I have been spinning for a while (as a bedroom DJ for now) and was wondering how you started off producing. I look at the pics of Armin Van Buuren's studio and have no idea what all of those amazing pieces of equipment are and what they do. (besides the keyboard synths and the mixer and computer programs).

Amazing isn't it? Soundproof and air conditioned.

I have reason 2.0, and Cubase SX and don't know how to use either yet. I have been trying but don't know where or how to start. What should I start off with? I must admit that I am a little intimidated at the moment because I have no idea where to start and was hoping to get some friendly advice from anyone who can give me a push in the right direction with regards to producing.

I hoep to hear from you guys soon. Thanks for your help.

Seany G

So I was playing around with various synths and midi synths today (one pimpmed one taht was an Midi editor and vodox and synt all in one)at the local music store and I have figured out that this is how you get most of the sounds. My next question is, how do you get all of these soulds to loop and play together to form a track? In a mixing board or in a program like Reason or Cubase? can you guys explain how studios like Armin's above (PC and hardware), work.

Thanks in advance.

FUCKING SHIT that studio is

and Seany_G...
hello

well....
if you have reason now, and REALY want to learn how to use it, start reading the Manual Step by Step and try to create stuff you just learned...it doesnt come fast, but dont give up man, dont give up
and dont worry, armin is tottaly crazy , you dont need this studio to create music, REASON ALONE is enough for this!
you can check the Amature Producers section in this forum and see what poeple do with software only...and its amazing sometimes

those synths you played with in the store... something like that you can find in Reason or in any other program...then those programs alow you to sequence all together with the drums and fun stuff...
just read the manul, and also if you going to use reason check http://www.reasonstation.net/ i guess...

I myself use FruityLoops, i find it easier, and also you dont need a Midi keyboard for recording notes (you can use the pc keyboard, but that also can be made with reason using some more programs....ask if you realy wnat to)
dont give up man, and if reason gives u problems, dont give up, try fruity - that what made me reasy start with producing, but others think that reason is easier, so its you to decide

GOOD LUCK

Just start with reason for the moment mate. I wouldn't worry about Cubase SX for the meantime.

How do you make the sounds loop? In a sequencer. I'll use an example of how to loop a synth.
When you hit the keys of a keyboard midi controller (a keyboard with out a synth in it), it sends whats called midi data. This is data on the key you hit, when you hit it, how hard you hit it, etc. This can be send into your computer. It is then sent back out of your computer into your synthesizer so that it makes a sound. If you press record on your computer using a midi senquencer like cubase or logic, then it can record the midi data, that is the notes. You can then edit this so that all the notes are right on time in case you make slight mistakes (its very hard to play a melody exactly in time with a kick). Now once you have got this midi data right, it can be copied and pasted so that it is continual, just like if i typed the letter G, then copied and pasted it to get GGGGGGGGGGGGGGG. See, its looped. You then lay that midi file which sends the now corrected and looped midi data back to your synth. From the synth, the sound comes out of the audio jacks and into your computer where you hit audio record and record the audio that comes in.

Does this make sense? Don't worry, it takes everyone a while to understand exactly what is going on and how to make stuff sound like you want it to sound.

ok, i'll try to explain

there is a very cool driver called "MIDI Yoke" that allowes you to route MIDI from any MIDI-out program to anyother program like Reason.
First of all where can you find Midi-Out programs?
-i suggest downloading this little program:
http://www.analogx.com/contents/dow...udio/vpiano.htm

-or you can use Fruity-Loops' Midi-Out Channel

now, i said you need that special driver to route things , right?
so you can download it & see info about it here:
http://www.midiox.com/myoke.htm
just install the driver like they show on the site.
i'm sorry, but i installed this driver several months ago... so i dont remember exactly what to do, but realy read what written in that site, its not that complicated...also you need to configure little thing in reason there, check the manual for how using this with a normal midi keyboard, but insted configure the ports from that driver... if you try abit you'll understand...

good luck
