On Saturday, June 7th 2003… Empire Productions, Numb Clothing and The TOV Music Group reunite once again to bring you Toronto’s most anticipated event series… SOUND CLASH 5.
Earlier this year, Sound Clash hosted the Valentine’s Day event and we proved to Toronto once again that we know how to rock the house. Well, we are back and coming harder then ever. Come out and join us as we continue to blaze 100000 watts of tearin’ drum breaks and organ-hemridging sub-bass and move your mind, body and soul deep inside the Jungle. Massive get ready for the return of the monstrous SOUND CLASH!!!
Line-up:
MARCUS VISIONARY (Flex Records, Hustlin’ Beats, Yard, Theory, Toronto CAN)
Toronto’s long time veteran returns to Empire with a box full of goodies compiled by himself and long time studio partner Nemesis. Marcus has been helping build Toronto’s Jungle scene for over a decade now and has been hotter then ever as of late. Alongside running Toronto’s #1 radio show, the Prophecy on 89.5 FM and maintaining a strict production schedule, Marcus has also began hosting the Theory events which has strung together a fresh new vibe for the 19+ massive. It’s all about education when it comes to developing an industry and Marcus is definitely one of Toronto’s favorite professors.
DJ LUSH & NATURAL MC (Catchin’ Wreck, Hustlin’ Beats, Trouble On Vinyl, Renegade, Toronto CAN)
DJ Lush has proven time and time again why he is the deadly DnB DJ in Toronto. Holding it down as 1 half of the prestigious CATCHIN’ WRECK duo alongside the badboy producer Natural MC, Lush’s sound and style are unmatched by anyone. Catchin’ Wreck has been very busy as of late with a string of release seen on Renegade Recordings, Trouble On Vinyl and Toronto’s own Hustlin’ Beats imprint. Natural has also been making waves on a side project called the Soul Providers. With a full rap vocal DnB lick recently released on Soul Odyssey Records, you can quickly see that these guys have the future in the palms of their hands.
CAPITAL J (Mix n Blen, N2O Records, Wikkid, Just Jungle Radio, www.djcapitalj.com, Toronto CAN)
After a tearin’ performance at Sound Clash 4 in February, Capital J is back and with a fresh new lot of tunes for the Sound Clash massive. J has been extremely busy as of late, as he recently signed his monster ‘Evil Streets’ tune to Kenny Ken’s Mix n Blen Recordings. He has also just had a slew of releases recently on the Montreal based Wikkid Records as well as the Los Angeles based N2O Recordings. Toronto’s mighty turntablist will be stepping up on June 7th and reminding us all once again just why they call him Cap… Cap… Cap… CAPITAL J!
SLIP N SLIDE (Jedi Records, Crimsyn, Vinyl Syndicate, Toronto CAN)
The men of steel are coming in for the first time ever at a Sound Clash event. The dynamic duo also known as Slip n Slide have been making waves in the T.Dot for years. Slip n Slide have been biggin’ up Toronto DnB in ways that most people don’t even realize. DJ Slip has release tons of music over the years on the Vinyl Syndicate imprint, Toronto’s first major DnB label. He also released the massive ‘Man Of Steel’ (The Superman Tune) on the world famous Urban Takeover UK, and has done some remix work for Canada’s starlet Nelly Furtado. DJ Slide has been the force behind some of Toronto’s best and longest running Jungle nights. The first was Syndicate Fridays @ The Beat Junkie way back in the day, and new the ever popular Liquid Funk @ Milanos every Sunday night. Slide also hosts Source FM on 100.7 every Friday night at 3AM to 6AM. These are the soldiers that you need to recognize and look at as a heavyweight force in Toronto’s DnB industry.
EVERFRESH (On Point Recordings, www.djeverfresh.com, Toronto CAN)
Everfresh is renowned in Toronto for having one of the ‘hottest boxes’ in the city. The On Point Recordings head honcho has been a key soldier in the growth of Canada’s DnB Industry. From doing guest spots on Medicine Muffins’ ‘Rinse Out Radio Show’ on 88.1 FM in the early 90’s, to the main stages of most of Canada’s top electronic music events, Everfresh has never disappointed. Time after time, Everfresh has shocked audiences with his unique & wide range of style.
MYSTICAL INFLUENCE (Vinyl Syndicate, Crunk Recordings, Toronto CAN)
OH GOSH!!!!!! One of Toronto’s elite returns to the Sound Clash roster after a short hiatus. Mystical Influence has been at the top of the Drum n Bass game in Canada for close to a decade. Through his residency for Syrous Productions and the Vinyl Syndicate imprint, which he started with his brother DJ Sniper and DJ Slip, Mystical has raised the level of excellence by taking Canada’s scene to new, higher levels. This is a DJ that you need to see, because Mystical Influence will be there to ‘Tear down the Bumbaclot Place’!
RYAN RUCKUS (Hustlin' Beats Recordings, Yard Recordings, Empire, Toronto CAN)
Fresh off the Hustlin’ Beats European tour, Ryan Ruckus is back in the T.Dot and ready to take this scene by storm. With tons of DnB events and a slue of releases getting ready for his Hustlin’ Beats & Yard Recordings labels, Ruckus is going into the summer of 2003 with his focus in check. But on June 7th, this is Sound Clash… and when Ruckus is performing in his own house, you know this man will be representin’ for the Empire Massive.
DILIGENCE (Hustlin' Beats Recordings, Empire, Toronto CAN)
One of the original Hustlin’ Beats soldiers is making his return to the Empire arena and believe it when we say he’s coming ready! Diligence has been hard at work in the studio over the past months building an arsenal of Hustlin’ tunes and VIP specials that he will definitely be lashing out with. The silent killer is back and you’d better be prepared for murder!
Hosted by:
Caddy Cad, M.C.P., Bandit & Trajady
Featuring SPECIAL GUESTS…
DJ BROCKIE (Undiluted Recordings, Kool FM, Jungle Fever, True Playaz, UK)
One of Jungle music’s original pioneers makes his long awaited return to Toronto. Brockie has been a key figure in the molding of the foundation and building of the strong worldwide sound of Drum n Bass. The King of the Kool FM airwaves for almost a decade, Brockie has earned his place among the elite of the world drum n bass society. After a short hiatus from his Undiluted imprint, Brockie is looking to deliver a stronger, more redefined label… which won’t be too hard already housing such anthems as ‘Represent’, Stampede, Echo Box and a range of others. June 7th marks the first appearance for the DJ Brockie as he will be sharing the stage with long time mic-man, MC Det. These 2 are definitely getting ready to raise the roof and rumble those B-Lines as only the B-to the R-O-C-K-I-E can.
TWISTED INDIVIDUAL (Formation, Reformed, UK)
People have classed him as the ’50 Cent’ of Drum n Bass. This long time producer on one of the jungle music’s most respected labels has taken the industry by storm over the last year and if you hear his beats, you can understand why. Twisted Individual’s sound is as distinct as the mighty Dillinja and Total Science, but with a jump up sound the is yet again changing the future sound of DnB. With an array of hits like ‘Rusty Sheriff’s Badge’, ‘Bitch Muzzle’, ‘Crap Rinse Out’, the massive ‘Enter the Dragon Remix’ on Trouble on Vinyl and basically every piece of vinyl with his name on it, Twisted is becoming a favorite to those Drum n Bass faithful’s here in the T.Dot. This is one that shouldn’t be missed.
KEATON of Universal Project (Renegade Hardware, Universal Project, Usual Suspects, True Playaz, UK)
Where to begin talking about the one simply known now as Keaton. He made his Toronto debut alongside his original partner in crime Chris as the 2 represented in the T.Dot as the USUAL SUSPECTS roughly 3 years ago. Very familiar to the Empire arena, Keaton has held it down for us many times in the past and has never disappointed. This time around, Keaton is coming with a new light. In the last couple of years he has embraced a new project called UNIVERSAL PROJECT. With releases already seen on Renegade Hardware, True Playaz, and there own Universal Project imprint, Keaton has secured his place as the future of Jungle / Drum n Bass music.
MC DET (Times Two Records, The Professionals, Kool FM, Jungle Fever, UK)
Empire in excited to have invited one of Jungle music’s most infamous voices to join us in our Sound Clash celebration. Originally from the Kool FM stables, MC Det’s long awaited return has finally come to an end. This is the first time that Det will be gracing us on the Empire stage and just in time. With his new label… Times Two Records, and a hot full vocal double pack just recently released, he is stepping into the future with a sound incomparable to say the least. Det is also one of the leading men involved in the newly formed crew called ‘the Professionals’, alongside heavyweight MC’s Fearless, Skibadee and Shabba. If you haven’t seen him live before, now’s the time to see the original 2 Times Freestyler represent inside the T.Dot once again.
