advice on a CD player

Hello, I am looking to buy a CD turntable player.

I have my eyes on the pioneer CDJ 100

I want 2 things

quality and compactness

I know that Pioneer is good quality, and the CDJ 100 is pretty small.

does anyone have any advice on what CD player might suite me better? are there smaller ones out there that perform in a similar way?

all the help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I've got two cdj100s and there brilliant. Do all the basics and a bit more. If you just want them to learn on or supplment your exisitng setup go for it.

There are smaller models round, but most other cdjs are modelled on the pioneers anyway.

Go for the 100s.

The 100 predecessor, the CDJ-500S is smaller I think. It's more like a little black cube than the 100, and is pretty good.

If you want compactness though, consider a 19" rack twin CD player.

the CDJ100 is an excellent choice.

I'm not sure about the 500s, but the 500 II is much larger--on the scale of the CDJ-1000--than the 100. If you look at a picture of it, it only looks smaller because it is square. Though, you will see that it is a top loading cd player and therefore you can get a good estimate of the size. The 100 has the cd slot positioned underneath the jog wheel, however, and due to this design, a lot of space is saved. I own two cdj-100s and I have never used a better cd deck. The 1000 is nice and all, but for the money the 100 is a much better deal--especially since only a small handfull of the people who post here can actually afford to drop $2300+ on a pair of 1000s!

If quality is your number one, Avro, then I would definitely stick with the CDJ-100. There are a small handful of cd decks that are better than the 100, but they are all very expensive too--not to say that $300 a deck for the 100s is cheap... There are smaller cd players as well, but I personally don't like rack mounted decks because the jog wheel and all of the controls and buttons are much much smaller, making it a little harder to use and a bit more cramped. Not only that, rack mounted decks aren't really THAT much smaller, they just redivert the space by vertically stacking the equipment and having the small controls on top.
