a simple RCA 2 into one will not work, because you'll be sending double the signal into one input, and will overload it.

The only other option is if either of your mixers has an extra line input(besides the 2 used up by the CD players), you could route one mixers output into one channel of the other.

this is a less than optimal setup though, as one DJ will always have to mix out on the other side, and you'll only be able to get max 3 decks playing at once.

John, I think he is trying to do a 2 X 4 set up for which a 3 channel mixer(at least one of them) is a MUST have. The hook up from all of that into one amp isn't a problem at all. All you need to do is take master output RCAs from one mixer into channel 1 line input of the other mixer, then use channels 2 and 3 on the other mixer to control those cd decks and channel 1 controls volume and cross mixing to the original two decks(the mixer with 3 channels MUST have an assignable cross fader) then from that mixer's master outputs to the amp.

yeah, but they only have two 2 channel mixers. so, the way to do it is with a session box. cheaper than buying another 3 channel.

and even if you do have a 3 channel, you don't need an assignable crossfader, you just route the 2 channel output into the center channel of the 3 channel, which is how it is on vestax mixers anyway..

Wow, you guys have totally lost me.
However we do it isn't one of us always gonna have to fade out the outgoing track as the other fades in the incoming track? I don't see how that can be avoided. How could I fade out his track from my mixer or visca-versa, if I cued up they would just overlap right? He has to fade it out. Btw thanks for the help.

yep, to mix between, one DJ will have to fade out, and one fade in.

UNLESS you get another 2 channel mixer in the middle, in which case, you'd use that one to fade between each of your mixers.

or if you had a 3 channel mixer, then you put the CDJs on 2 of the channels, and the output of the other mixer into the 3rd channel. then the DJ with the 3 channel would have control over the other mixers volume and could fade out himself. BUT the dj with the 2 channel wouldn't.

It depends really, there are different ways to have this setup.

the best way is with 3 mixers. One for each DJ, and one in the middle, to control the balance between them. then both DJs can access the crossfader in the middle to work between them.

Another way is with only 2 mixers, one having at least 3 channels, with the output of the first mixer being routed into a spare channel of the second. in this case the DJ with the 2 channel mixer would have to depend on the other DJ to leave the 3 channel open so he could mix in. and the DJ with the 3 channel would have to fade down the middle channel to mix out.

Yet another way is with a four channel mixer, each DJ gets two channels. this way sucks though, because, there is only one cue output, so you'd need to use a splitter to drive both headphones. and each DJ wouldn't be able to cue a seperate thing.

I got ya. Thanks man that helps me out. I guess we should get a cheap third mixer and use that as the "master cross-fader" between our two mixers. That sounds like the best set up. Thanks again.
