How does Reason 2 compare to actual music production hardware ?

A friend of mine just got Reason 2.5 the other day, and its such an amazing piece of software. I was curious, and wanted to know how
Reason 2.5 comapred to actual music production hardware (the real thing) Thanks...

i think hardware may produce better sounds outright, but with eq and tweaking you can make software sound just as good as hardware. once again we come back to the fact that "it's how you use the tools". yes, some tools may make it easier to produce good sounds, but if someone knows what they are doing, they can get good sounds with the tools they use whether it is hardware or not.

i've been using reason since 1.0 and now use 2.5...

i love reason and for people like me who cant afford a barrage of studio hardware, reason is essential. you can create instruments on reason from sounds you get elsewhere, so potentially the hardware is limitless, but dont be fooled, true hardware has abilities that you just cant make on reason. it takes a very long time to reach this point though, because reason is really great. definitely an incredible tool though.

i recommend a separate piece of software for mastering and then you've got a very decent soft-studio...the next step is a multi thousand dollar studio.

All the hardware used in multi-thousand dollar studios gives out a digital signal just like reason.
I think it's safe to say that reason equals the output.
And like Nick Mahony said, all you need is reason and something to master it in, like cubase.
