Unhappy Hockey: Greatest Goalie and one of the best players ever retiring tomorrow

My favorite player and the reason why I watch hockey and why I cheered for the Canadiens and Avalanche, Patrick Roy, will retire tomorrow... it is a sad day for me as I never had an athlete that was my favorite retire... there really is no reason to watch hockey anymore. The Avs have no chance of winning the cup with Aebischer in net. Not that he would ever see this, but Thank You Patrick Roy for 18 seasons of absolute magic!!!

yes, sad day indeed

4 stanley cups

this man had

was a hero to many people who played goalie in Canada

like me (13 yrs I played)

I had his fear of skating on the lines before going to goal. I also did what he did..faced the net before going to protect it. Cept I never spoke to my goalposts and i did not use the butterfly style.
Future Hockey Hall of Famer and I remember when Roy was on, he was unstoppable.

And me too. I was also a butterfly goalie. Those were the days...

3 Conn Smythe Trophies, most wins, most minutes, and a crapload more playoff records... this guy was good in the late 80's, 90's and is still one of the best goalies in the league today. How many people can adapt to a changing sport like that and still stay on top?

IMO, the BEST goalie of all time. I remember watching the Canadians cup run in '93, that was one of the best goaltending spectacles I have ever seen (132:39 minutes of overtime shutout hockey) indeed.

He is a great innovator and a great role-model. For proof of that one has only to look a the slew of talented French-Canadian goalies who cite Roy as their idol.

Thanks for the memories Patrick.

I hated him when he beat the Kings in 93' as a Canadien. Hated him when he beat the Kings in 01' and 02' as an Avalanche. Hated him for winning the cup 4 times. But I still love the guy. It truely is sad that he has to retire. He is the best goalie of OUR time! I'd like to say of ALL time but I wasn't around for 100 years. But with the numbers he put in the playoffs, I'll give him the best PLAYOFF goalie of all time.

He was a goalie that was calm, had a crazy butterfly style and came out of the net like crazy. He even stickhandled the puck to the blue line once. His Fight with, correct me if I'm wrong, Mike Vernon in the 1996 Playoffs vs. the Red Wings was a memorable one. He actually put his blocker, glove, stick, and mask down on top of his net and skated to center ice ready to take one for the team. A classic goalie brawl I'll never forget. A true warrior!!!

He is the Wayne Gretzky of Goalies. Wouldn't you agree?

He actually beat up both Osgood and Vernon in his career.
