I would recomend that you get your hands on Waves native gold bundle (or was it waves gold native bundle...can never remember the right order...well anyway)

it's not a standalon though but a vst plugin...

it has all you need for mastering, EQ (up to 10 band eq), many different analysing tools, compressors and much more....beats the crap out of T-racks if you can use the tools properly

Steinberg Wavelab 4 has more analysis tools and meters that you can count. Combine it with the Waves plugins and you'll have all you need.

Aside from the three main options mentioned here already (i.e. Waves, T-Racks and Izotope) Steinberg also have a Mastering Bundle of VST effects.

I've tried all these options, and personally like Waves the best. I found them the easiest to use and quickest to get quality results. But, I'm not a mastering engineer The other options are also capable of quality results.

T-Racks is good for mastering and with the new 24bit version you get alot of presets that point you in the right direction if you are not used to mastering your self..... i always get the sound i am looking 4.

Yeah I'd say try T-racks if you're new - I barely know anything about mastering and I still get marked improvement in my tracks.

I highly recommend iZotope Ozone.

It's the best mastering plugin I've used, and it has everything you could could possibly ask for. And the results are amazing!

The people at Izotope seem like they really want the average person to be able to master their own tracks. This is evident in the software and their excellent tutorial.

WOW!!!!! thx for all the replies and input!!! i have some research to do now...

yeah, i really dont know alot about mastering, so i cant get something really advanced. but i want to get something that i can learn on as well, i dont want to become dependent on a programs presets, when i could learn how they are done, and why, and use those fundamentals with upgraded software down the road.

Izotope sounds good, im gonna check it out.

thx again for all the replies!!

BTW i hope its not vst, im using reason. you cant use any plugins with reason can you?

No. you can't use VST in Reason, but I recommend you to buy (or get hold of some how ) Cubase (5 or SX) Reason and Cubase will work perfectly with eachother (using Rewire). I tried it, and it's awsome. PM me, and maybe I will help you get Cubase SX..
