Dunno Soundforge issue...Recording

Ok.....little Soundforge 5.0 Prob!!!!!!!???????

-I've gone to the little speaker thingy on the bottom right in windows ...changed the properties to record.

-Moved the recording level all the way up

-Move the line-in bar all the way up

-Mono-46,000

-Hit record on soundforge 5.0

-Decible meter hitting above 10

But yet when i playback the recorded radio broadcast on my soundforge...it sounds all low and i need to max my volume to even hear it !! Where did i go wrong???

Maybe you have a really large amount of headroom. try and get it closer to zero than -10, cos -10 is still pretty soft. Also, try normalising it after you've recorded it to bring the maximum peak up to -0.05

Question Hmm..?!?!

Maybe i need to do a little more research w/ Soundforge 5.0 (?). I thought it was gonna be really easy to use at first, but now it just seems like I have to read the manual in major detail!

Stupid Question...but how do i normalize a track after being recorded??

I'm sure the mono wasnt a prob cus I converted to stereo thereafter and the broadcast still sounded like it was down a large dark tunnel lol...Someone pleeeeeease help! Thanks

Have you tried raising the wave/mp3 volume meter during playback? That should do the trick.

46000? Very strange bit rate to record at! Why not use 44100?

Smoking ..umm..something sorry....

sorry it was 44100.....i'm not at my home cpu when posting, so #'s get a little fried in the head....lol...sorry.

Is the recording supposed to sound sh!tty before u normalize it ?...or is the file supposed to sound clear and at normal volume prior to normalizing?

My setup is also like this:

amp/reciever(cassette/tape out)----> computer/soundcard(line in)
oO0 Again for recording a radio broadcast 0Oo

Is there maybe a better setup I should be using?
Or is it me being new w/ soundforge and having major issues?
Maybe both? (wouldnt doubt it.....lol)

Any help is Greeeeeatly appreciated

Peace

Smoking ..umm..something I finally figured it out ! But,......

I finally figured out the problem of why I was getting such a low input. You guys dont wanna know what it was believe me (I'm an idiot!!).

But.....

How do i reduce the level of feedback when i convert wavs to mp3? I keep getting a little static at certain points in the track, but when I listen to wav alone, i dont notice a thing! It almost seems like the higher kbps (128, 192,...etc), the higher the static level. N-e-one have any similar issues at 1st?

Any help is appreciated....Thanks yet again..

Smoking ..umm..something Well....

If u really need to know and laugh.....

I have a monitor that has a built in mic. So when plugging in my input to my soundcard i completely forgot about the mic plug in my soundcard! So when i was recording the radio, it was actually recording the radio through the mic instead of the input! N-e-ways, its fixed.

But i really need to know how to lower the distortion in my mp3's after conversion from wav. N-e-1 know how? or recommendations?
Thanks

Thanks, you made me laugh What exactly do you mean by converting from wav to mp3 format? When I do a mix I just save in MP3 format:192kbps
