Eq Knobs - how you manipulate them?

Kinda curious how everyone likes to manipulate their EQ knobs. Do you usually turn one every 8 beats or every 4? Do you base it on the song or do you try to turn the knobs so much for each record? Any other answers to questions that would deal with this topic.

I like to change the highs or lows every 8 beats or so and every 32 beats change it dramaticly(maybe using a kill switch). sometimes I hit a kill switch though and completely make it sound like crap. When is a good spot in a song to use a kill switch?

Also when you are in the big breakdown(which usually is base free) do you turn up your overall volume so that your lights hit the same level they were during the base part?

Thanks if you can answer any of these,

Weymouth

for the EQ's it depends on what type of songs i'm mixing.
when i'm mixing a normal straight up progressive 4/4 on the floor song with another progressive 4/4 on the floor song my most used method is to start the new song with the low EQ down all the way, the mids down to about 30% and the hi's to about 40%.
depending on how long the song that is playing is (and if the songs that i'm mixing are in the same or compatible keys), i'll throw in the new song after the break down or one, two or three measures afterwards. when i first push start the new song i'll push the channel up to about 30-40%. (i never use the cross fader to mix unless i'm mixing breaks or something, more often then not i keep it in the middle). then i'll slowly mix the highs and change the hi's on the song playing from 60% to 40% and the new song to 60% after the first 16 beats since i threw the new song on. then i'll probably wait 32 beats and switch the lows in the same manner, (slowly bring up the new song and bring down the old song, until the old song is all the way down and the new song is all the way up). if the songs aren't too deep and permit quick changes then i'll keep the original song at 50% bass on the mixer and wait toswap them out after the 32 beats pass. after i'm done with the lows i then slowly bring up the mids on the new song and bring down the channel on the old song. i try to keep the mids up high (on the song that was playing) whilst the channel is down low on the old song until the first break down on the new song. once that hits i kill the old song.

yeah. usually depends on the track.

some sound really good with quick cuts, others with more gradual manipulation. and that goes while in a mix also.
