I wouldn't say either is the best game soundtrack ever, but between the two? It's all about Aeris' theme. Ah, yes. The memories.

Xenogears overall, easily. Although Final Fantasy VII's World Crisis theme destroys any single track in both games (Track 1 from Xenogears is the closest).

It's hard to choose. I like the FF7 regular battle music and the Xenogears boss battle music equally as much.

BGM in squaresoft production always have a big role (and that's one big point to get me into the game and the story). I've got OST from FF5 - FF8 (somehow I can't tolerate the newer FF series now), FFTactics , CT and CC, Romacing SaGa 3, Saga Frontier 1 and 2 ...
all rock at their own time but if you ask which being my most favorite, I'd say Chrono Cross CD3. A lot of deep melodies , a lot of dark prog new age styles ...

Yeah, that CD is great.

A great set of tracks to listen to are the Ultimecia boss battle tracks in FF8. You know, the music that plays when fighting Ultimecia through her many incarnations. Nice dark melodies

Xenogears is indeed a wonderful OST, but my best OST would have to go for Suikoden II, or Wild Arms OST, good stuff.
