Windows XP Java problems

OK, I am getting very impatient over this. Around a week back, my Java all of a sudden stopped working. I have no idea why, when I accessed a page with Javascript, IE tried to install the Microsoft VM on me but when it downloaded, it redirected me to a page with some bullshit about Microsoft is no longer offering the VM for Windows XP. I downloaded the latest Windows update. Result: Nothing. Downloaded the latest Java VM from http://www.java.com. Result: Initially it worked at first but after rebooting, it's back to the same old bullshit. Even though the program is configured to work with IE6 and in my Internet Options it's configured to use this program, still nothing.

I've tried other web browsers, no help at all.

It's getting incredibly irritating, I really appreciate any help.

The only way I can access Java pages on this machine is via Windows 3.11 and Windows 95 on Connectix Virtual PC, but doing that everytime I want to access a java page is annoyinh.

There should be somewhere under Internet Options to enable either JVM or Microsofts version... you should be able to chose which one you want to use . Failing that, try reinstall or format if you get desparate...

Hope this (somewhat) helps

I did a search on google for it and found several threads about it on various computing forums. All of the suggestions failed to work. Installing windows updates, service packs, changing IE settings etc. I've tried everything and...

LOL, I can't even click the smilies on the left because they require Javascript.

Woa woa woa my friend, did you just say.... JAVASCRIPT? well this is a new twist.
Microsoft is no longer authorized to provide the Java Virtual Machine with its copies of Windows XP home and Professional. This is a whole law suit thing. That is why your Java VM isnt working, or even installed on your machine.

But the thing is, you should be able to use javascript without any problems. Javascript is built into your web browser. So it seems your problem lies elsewhere. It is possible you have a misconfiguration within your internet settings. Look for anywhere you may have disabled Javascript or Java usage.

^^^ wot he sed.

javascript is a form of html, whereas java is a totally different language. js should work fine, it's the java that fucks up, not js.

.. interesting.. have u tried mozilla or netscape or some other 3rd party browser?

Javascript and Java are both not working, to begin with I confused them both but after a bit of research into the issue I learned they were both different things. It happens with every web browser I try, Netscape 4.x, Mozilla 0.6, Netscape 7.0 and the 16 bit version of IE3. Interestingly though, some basic Java works in IE3 which does not work in the other browsers. When I click a link which tries to open a new window in Javascript, it does not work. So basically, both are not working and with all the research I've done, I cannot find any resolutions.

Ive been geting a few problems recently to though they have disapeared now, just a case of microsoft releasing a fix for it, just check windowsupdate.com once in a whiule

I had the same problem with running Java applets, you can fix it by downloading a copy of the Microsoft VM...

http://www.ddecirce.com/download/msjavx86.exe

hope this helps

God knows why windows didnt put java into its prog. Anyway it sounds to me like yr java software has currupted. So you will probably need to first uninstal it. Unfortunatly the new xp is a total maze and hard to find any settings without searching for hours.

If i had this problem for long i would b forced to give in and reformat.

Try and uninstal then reinstal if u can.
