Idea First (proper) try at hard trance

Hi there... I'm trying to produce my first ever hard(ish) trance track and now I'm stuck... so I'm seeking for your assistance.

The problem is that I cannot seem to get a decent lead for it... then I started wondering if it even needs a lead, maybe I could fill it up with other crap.

Oh well, anyway, lemme know what you think of this:
Hard Sample (112kbps)

Hello Nik,

This sounds more like regular trance to me than hard trance. In response to your question "Do I need a lead?" my answer is yes.

I noticed a very good synth effect -- it was kinda hard to hear behind that main grainy synth bass -- that went like whoop-whoop, whoo-whoop-whoop. Very nice for hard trance. I suggest you make that synth louder, and elaborate on it.

i agree that this is more "regular" trance, per say, than hard trance, but the "hard" elements are definitely there. need a lead? of course. nice work though, with the atmosphere, fills, percussion, etc. please finish.

This sounds great! Nice work for sure.
I agree with the others though, I think a lead would be pretty useful. It definitely has the feel that there should be a really catchy lead over top, nothing too complex though. I'd have it build in slowly then kick in hard at some point.

But for sure, keep working on this! I'd love to hear what you do with it..very nice work with the overall sound and rythyms.

if this is to be hard, it needs a meatier kick and thicker more pounding bass as ppl have already said this sounds more like just pumpin trance.. you need to make everything sound as if if u hit it with ur fist it would break you

sounds really good tho

pretty well done, nice percussion work. pretty textbook, but pretty nice...it's really not all that hard of trance...

and as for needing a lead...you don't "need" anything. trance doesn't have to be melodic, or even harmonic, but most people like it that way.

experiment with different sounds, different effects...maybe this could be a breakthrough track

Sounds nice, hard elements are there indeed. Except the real hard trance feel though

I think it is a good idea, there aren't many people trying hard trance with Reason (maybe it's not that obvious?)... In my eyes, you're almost like a pioneer on that matter

Keep working on it I'd say!

well...

well it sounds a little bit like nrg trance but not really like hard trance. you need a phatt melodic lead-sound and a nice acid line, some filling strings (with absynth) would also be nice...

Well it's hard for my standards, I'm not really into the "real" hard trance thing...
