I was reading this thread about hard house and hard trance and had to post this. First off, what really gets me is that whenever this is discussed, someone always says something along the lines of "that shit sucks, I like inteligent music". Oh yeah? Well what is so inteligent about your music? 8 times out of 10, this ends up being progressive, now I actually like progressive, I even spin it out from time to time, but what makes progresive inteligent? Please, enlighten me. Seriously, it's just a matter of taste, you know, the whole "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" deal. Just becuase you've heard a hard house track or two that have sounded cheesy or whatever, now that whole genre is stupid music? Guess what, I've shoped for progresive records and found myself listnening to a heap of fuckin garbage before I picked out 3 or 4 records that I liked, just like any other genre that I shop for.

I also saw that shit about hard house doesn't progress or evolve over the years. If you've been listening to it over the years, you would know that it has evolved plenty. You just can't tell because you don't like it and pay no attention to it. This is fine though, it's not your cup of tea, I understand that you don't want to listen to it. So instead of "Hard House is garbage, it's never evolved, it's the same shit it was 2 years ago" how about "I really don't like Hard House and don't pay much attention to it so it all sounds the same to me". Hard house has changed a lot in my opinion, it's even called Hard dance as oppossed to U.K. hard house now because it doesn't sound like it used to.

One last gripe, I saw this shit on another board. Someone sayin that hard house only appeals to 15 to 18 year old kids all hoped up on disco biscuits jumpin around like idiots. Bullshit. I know a lot of people that love Hard House and have never touched ecstacy before. I used to eat a lot of beans when I partyed and I listened to trance, progressive and tribal house. Now that I rarely touch that stuff I listen to Hard House and Jungle.

I really don't care for trip hop, you don't see me going around trying to get a boycott going proclaiming that those that listen to that shit must be fuckin stupid, retarded or inbred and everyone should be listening to my superior intellegent music. Grow the hell up. An opinion was wanted, not your belief that I must be a homo because I like a certain kind of music. Take your intellegent music and stick it up your ass you whiny, self important, narcissistic jack offs.

Sorry, I had to vent. I guess you should take this with a grain of salt.

I totally fucking agree with you gringo... Theres nothing worse than a self righteous music nazi. People rabbit on about how their music taste is 'more mature' or 'more intelligent' because they listen to prog or _techno_, but what excatly makes it so hmm? These are some of the arguments iu hear:

'it doesnt take any talent to makea hard house track': youd be surprised yknow, sure anyone can make a BAD hard house track but then bad prog and bad techno is probably easier to make.

'hard house it too boring/repetative': Im not sure how anyone who listens to prog can acuse any other kind of music of being boring, my ex flatmat used to dj prog and i tell you every track he played had the same beat/riff behind it for the majority of the song. And Techno people call hard house repetative, when techno is PURPOSEFULLY made to be repetative so 'creative' DJ's can have a wank and twiddle the EQ knobs.

'Ive been listening to music longer': So fucking what, it doesnt make you an expert if you listen to the same shit over and over again for 15 years.

Im not trying to slag off on prog or techno, Ive been to some great techno parties and heard some great prog, but it seems to me that fans of this kind of music feel the need to justify their musical taste by slagging off at every other kind of music... FFS if youre so insecure about what music you like then maybe it really IS shit. :/
