FX Processor units

Anybody know anything about FX processors? Like which one has better features or effects, easier to use, and overall better? I'm aiming at buying a Kaoss Pad 2, but there are alot out there that might be comparable, so I was just wondering.
Thanks.

I just bought the Pioneer EFX 500 and awaiting its arrival. Having used my friend's, it's lots of fun and easy to use. Your not limited on what you can do. Also it outputs high sound quality which some other machines don't do. The machine features 3-band EQ cuts sounds to -0dB and can almost completely silence instruments, Auto beat effects to produce live effects including delay, auto flanger, echo, auto pan and auto transformer, auto BPM counter, BPM tap button, Effect frequency control, digital jog break dial with five effects, jog dial memory function, stereo/mono RCA inputs/outputs and MIDI in/out, headphone output.

It may seem a little expensive, around $449 new, but it's worth it IMO. You can check out www.pioneerprodj.com and read all about it.

Talk to DJ Tranz for some better prices on what your looking for.

Got a Kaoss Pad 2, and frankly I prefer it over the EFX500. It's the most performant and well built live fx processor you can find if you ask me.

there was a decent thread about 3 or 4 weeks ago that discussed several efx boxes that you can get. Try searching for it.

As with most gear issues, it tends to be a matter of personal taste... tho ive never used one, the Kaos pad is suppoed to be pretty good... tho coming from a studio background im supposed to tell you that all that DJ gear is a bunch of kids toys and to buy some proper stuff from roland.

The point of those effectors is that they can be used fast in live situations, which can't really be done with studio effects. Admit it, if you need to scroll through several menu's to change a certain parameter, it's not that ergonomic.

And imo except for some of their older delay machines, roland doesn't really stand as a reference to me in the studio (except their synths of course). If you want quality effects you better stick with Lexicon, TC or Eventide...

But yes, it's just a matter of personal taste

Yes i agree, in a live situation rack mount fx units arent really what you want, but i was being a little tongue in cheek :P As for roland they make solid studio gear, for recording and producing. For a live performance something like an MC-505 or a trusty old TD-303 is great tho

Yeah, but those are not effectors, I account those as synths.

I've used an EFX500 before, and it was pretty fun to use...kinda simple though, I'm looking for an effects processor that isn't so limited and can do a wide range of things, not just send an effect with a vertical depth.
Thanks everybody. Looks like I'll be getting me a Kaoss Pad 2 pretty soon

You should see what I can do my MC505 for effects then.
But it does take some serious time to learn how to use all the properties and use them fast enough for live PA.

Yeye I know, but when I talk about effectors I mean machines with effects as their main purpose.

A groovebox is not an effector, it's meant to be an all in one package with tone generators, a mixer and integrated effects.

I hate to be difficult, but there is a big difference. The real decent effectors I've heard from Roland are the higher SDE (ok and the DEP-5) series, and frankly I wasn't really blown away either (and sorry to say, but the groovebox effects, even the new COSM algorythms are not impressing me either, ok for live use they may be enough, for studio use I'd prefer something else).
