my friend wants to scratch, wich should he get

TT 200s they're nicer, and alittle bit cheaper too or TT 500s same thing with the TTX-1 motor, i think those are cheaper or the same price as the stantons

I've got the ST100(the straight arm model from the STR8-100)
And I must say, it's nice. The motor is strong enough and the tonearm is very decent (what I can't say about numark turntables)

Also, the motor of the STR8-100 is 800 G/Cm² stronger than the TT200

(1600g/cm² with the TT200 and 2200 G/cm² with the STR8-100)

The STR-100 is a little bit more expensive...

I have tt-200's, i like the feel of them very much, and they have a good amount of torque, however i only mix, so im not sure what qualities a "scratcher" would work for.

for the price, they mix extremely well, the pitch is very steady i've found...the only downfall i think they have is that they dont come with dustcovers hehe.

Hey, Speaking about the numark, I was thinking of ordering the ttx1 off of ebay, the seller has no negative reviews and he soled a lot of electronics, but im not sure if its refabrished (definition: someone buys it from a store, an accident happened the tonearm broke or the motor got screwed up, they send it back to the company and they fix it and they sell it for cheaper) anyways give advices or if you know any seller on ebay that is selling ttx1 for cheap and the real thing no bs just pm me or post plzz.

Definitely str8-100s.

That's what I have...they are awesome. They have a straight arm, which helps keep the needle in the groove when you're getting all crazy. They have enough torque for anything you want to do...

I was tempted to get numarks, but i've heard they don't hold up that well. The stantons also have pitch correction, which is nice every now and then.

BTW, tiger777...the str8-100 is hte one with the straight tonearm, st-100 has a curved tonearm. Not sure if you just typed it wrong or what...but just clearing that up.

The Stanton STR8-100's, I think, are geared more towards scratching. Your friend should really go to a music shop and test out both models and see for himself which ones he feels more comfortable scratching on.

Get a used pair of Technics, or a pair of Numark TTX_1's...Spend the money now, cause you will save down the road. Don't chince on the mixer either. Get something that has a replaceable x-fader, reverse x-fader switch, doesn't bleed, and faders glide real nice without all sorts of noise.
It will make it easier to learn on better equipment, it may be good to learn on crappy equipment(sorry for whoever uses it) because you will be prepared for anything in the clubs, or in front of any audience. I was at this debate at one point, please trust me

i totally forgot about the pitch correction. that is a really cool piece of flair on the stanton. imho i think you'll be cool either way. i have a friend that scratches and he gets down on my 200s. i think with tier 1.5 decks, go with with the cheaper one and use more money for your needles and mixer. those are the items that actually send the sound to your crowd. if you buy one or the other, you will be happy bro.

You've used str8-100s? Not...str8-80s or 60s or some other piece of shit that looks like the 100s?

Only reason I ask is because a lot of people use a lower stanton model (which are all shit, I'll be the first to tell you)...then assume the 100s are hte same way, which they're not. Personally I'd rather have these than technics, but that's just me.

They have plenty of reaction, they have more torque than those technics you're recommending, they definitely do not have plastic platters.....

Just making sure we're talking about the same thing.

well i live in canada wich str8-100's cost 460 each plus the mixer wich is 350 and the cartridge and everything else i got it covered that is more than a thousand (tax included), I must say thats a SOO much money to waste, but as you all would say its probabaly worth it :P
