FAO: Car Stereo Buffs

Im in a position now where i wana deco my car out with some decent speakers and other car stereo guff.

Currently i have a sony mp30 4x50W mp3 player / cd / radio player, which is fine. the only speakers i have are two JBL 5" ones in the rear back seating panels, which are fucked, they rattle and distort and everything, prolly blown before i bought them.

I was thinking along the lines of replacing them speakers and having 2 6x9's in the parcel shelf, and possibly an amp in the boot.

I dont want a sub, as they are too big, and are too basey for trance music, my mate has a sub and he cant hear the melody over the base, which is abit stupid.

Suggestions please, best way of doing it, best brand of speakers / amp.

la la la

I have two 300 watt vibes in the rear, standards in the front. A blaupunkt 4X45 in the front as well as 2 amps, one for speaker and one for 500watt sub.

If u amp the speakers, the sub will not drown out the melody. As the speakers will then have a similar output to the sub. At least thats wot it sounds like in my bitch!

Best brand of your bits are Alpine, go for nothing else.

Preferably a set of S-Type 6*9's, & the equivelant amp, cant remember what it is. Halfords (where i work) will sort you out deffo but are on the pricey side, so scan through max power for the same products at half Halfords price.

Maybe look at getting some component speakers for the front doors (seperate tweeters), Infinity do some sweet ones of these (not too bass'y, probably the closest to hi-fi quality in a car), shop around & youll get a good price. Alpine also do an equivelant set of components in their S-type range so have a sniff round, & if your local halfords is a Ripspeed one then go have a listen.

Should be good if your throwing money at it

should be gaps in your front door panels for a set of 13cm's (presuming your car is younger than 20!), although the holes may be hidden behind trim.

Infinity just make some quality speakers, imo best sounding speakers at the price, tend to work well with most setups too, whereas if you got Alpine stuff you probably be best keeping the whole setup Alpine.

for trance music, i recommend the following setup, well before mine got stolen anyway...

u do need some good quality 2 way component sets for ur front... most cars are usually 6.5" size, that way u have ur mid range, and ur treble (tweeters) up front, preferally facing directly towards ur ears.

6x9 for the parcel shelf are good for music filling, but sometimes can sound bland... if your getting a sub too that is. Bass can be just right, just tune it with EQ's or using the settings on ur amp and head unit.

MY perfect setup will be possibly get 6x9 in the doorwells, with adjustable tweeters. 2 amps, powering front speakers and 2 12" subs tuned to play frequencies of 33hz (rmber, at this frequency, believe it or not, it makes girls cum )

As for makes... infinity IMO are a bit bassey for speakers but if ur not getting a sub, they will go well.

I prefer the likes of MB Quart, which have a good soundstage, they are just right for all round listening, but i'd complement them with subs.

Subs - go for JL Audio WC series, the WC7 12" are about 600quid like.

Go get car audio mag or some max power/revs, usually have reviews in there

on a subject like this i know nothing about i hate going to a shop coz they could be selling me the best out there, when infact its stock they cant clear...

I dont wana go over the top, i have a 1995 citroen ax forte, its not a big car and i wana keep my boot. i dont mind having one amp in there coz i can build a wooden case around it to keep my boot space and protect it, but i dont want a sub as i dont think my car is really good enough for the power of a sub. plus it'd take up a good 1/3 of my boot.

Front speakers i dont really know about, ive had my door apart but being electric windows there isnt anywhere for speakers and on the part nearest the hinge, they're gaps for drink holders, which is really really like, well handy to keep a drink in there, so i dont think i can have front door speakers.

I also need to replace my current 5" ones in the back, thats all there is space for in the panels.

So its really along the lines of an amp and 6x9's. possi front speakers, i dunno. reguarding keeping the system alpine, my head unit is sony.
