That's a damn powerful mac. D'you really need all that. I guess the bigger the better. Well if you're running logic, it should all be compatible. You need to get yourself a multichannel soundcard and a midi interface.

Mixers, Mackie are at the better end of the scale, but not cheap. If you want a midi mixer, there are plenty to chose from. Emagic has one for logic.

All the synths you buy, as long as they have midi are usable. You just plug it into the midi interface and away you go.

As for studio monitors, your choice is between powered and non-powered. What you get depends on how much you are willing to spend.

If you can spend quite some money, I would recommend monitors from brands like Genelec, Mackie, Dynaudio and KRK. They are not cheap, but it would be a good investment.

Analog mixers sound warmer then digital, but the digital mixers, like those from Yamaha, have other benefits, like build in effects and total recall for example. Mackie mixers are also good.

Synths you can look for:

Access synths
Waldorf synths
Roland JP8080
Dave Smith Instruments Evolver
Novation synths. They also have a drumsynth wich is intersting.

Other drumsynths:
TR-909 and TR808 of course
Jomox drumssynths
and the Drummachine, wich seems to be a very popular one.

If you need effects:

TC electronics and Lexicon reverbs are good.

The link shows the d8b, a mixer. It would be a good buy I think, but I know almost nothing about this mixer, and I think it's best to listen to the sound of different mixers that are intersting to you.
Al mixers of a brand have the samesoundcharistics I believe.
I think it's importand if a mixer is userfriendly for you, and if the mixer has all the functions your going to need.

It seems expensive also. I believe Armin van Buuren and Ferry Corsten use(d) it b.t.w . Armin van Buuren also uses the Mackie hr824 monitors I believe.

A lot of people use the digital Yamaha mixers and are satisfied with it. They are available in different price classes. Maybe the O1V is appropriate for you.

Beringer has a digital mixer, but I don't know about his quality.

You'll have to see what the prices are yourself. I don't know them for the U.S.

hahaha, I was about to say. The digital 8 Bus (d8b) is one mega mixer and well beyond your needs. If you are buying active monitors, you just need to make sure that the mixer to get has XLR outs to go into the speakers.

For $1,000 you might be better of looking at a 16 channel mixer rather than a 32. You should be able to get something good in that price range.
