Hello! Input on a book I'm about to start writing...

One of the things I want to do in my life is write a complete book on a decently meaningfull topic. My only interests outside of writing are music and (abstract) politics. Recently the state of the world and the political systems, and personal thoughts, involved have disturbed me. I'm not talking about bashing Bush(I am, after all, somewhat of a republican) but taking on the politics and thought proccesses of the world leaders and their followers.

I've decided to call this book "The Other Voice of Opposition" as I don't really agree with most of what is said on any side of modern political discussions.

I can't really explain my veiws in a shortened form, therefore I've chosen to write a complete book. Let me just say that...

1. I agree that force needed to be used in Iraq.
2. Bush has done many thing I don't agree with, but MANY things I do.
3. Given the time and place Bush was the best choice for the election.
4. The RAVE law, SOME drug laws, and MANY other laws need to be reformed.
5. The "American Way", as it is seen today is bullshit, in MANY ways.
6. By taking peices of laws and policies from other countries there could very well be a new way of thinking established that could reduce the amounts of physical conflict while still keeping an open floor for all beleifs.

I only listed political thoughts there(this book will be about other things as well) but I wanted to give an idea of where I'm coming from.

Please put any input in that you see fit. I am looking for agreement and disagreement, but I am not looking for flaming. This book, if writen correctly will be met with ALOT of opposition, therefore I would like to hear some of it beforehand. If you have something to say about the book, positive or negetive I will definatly listen.

I thought TA would be a good place to ask about this because I know some of my beleifs are shared on here, but alot of the world and alot of beleifs are represented. Thank you so much for your thoughts.

Bo.

If you want to write about international politics then the only advice I can give you is to go out and travel the world!

Agreed! If all goes well I will be in Europe within 2 years. I'm not planning on writing this quickly. Probally take at least 5 years. I just want it done by the time I'm 30.

my only advice to you (I'm currently writing a book: a novel) would be to stray away from contemporatary issues and focus on politics in general.
wouldn't you want someone to read it twenty years from now and enjoy it?

basically, your list of ideas got better as it went down. Your first ideas will be outdated in a few years, but your later ideas will be pertinent for far longer.

all in all, good luck! starting is the hardest part, so get started.

Thanks Davinox. There are some contemporary issues that I am concerned about hitting on for that reason in particular. Some that I'm not sure how to go about yet because of the fact that in 10 years things may be different.

But then, this book will be written to hopefully inspire change.

Other issues that I feel may not be suitable for this type of book, but I feel still need to be looked at...

- Armani & Banana Republic & Abercrombie, in themselves, are not wrong at all. In fact I dress in Polo & Armani daily. I have a problem with the way this style is displayed by the media as the only style anyone should be wearing and if they don't they are poor or not worthy of some things. A way of dress or a type of car does not in ANY WAY AT ALL define a person. Today, media defines a person. I can think of ways to correct that, but it would not be at all accepted by 90% of the world!

- Religion as it exsists in modern form is complete bullshit. I am an athiest, but I have complete respect for those who do beleive in a supreme diety. My personal beleif is that people who are devout christians or muslims or whatever are only so because they NEED to be. If they didn't beleive they are supposed to please someone, they would feel as if they have no purpose in life. That is my opinion though and I don't push it on anyone. People should be able to beleive what they want to, no matter what is right. (As I said, I know there will be opposition to what I say)

There are many other things such as these that I would love to write entire chapters about, but I'm not sure if it would take away from the effectivness of the book.

you could even take an indirect route if you would like to branch out to many different oppinions.

A posibility would be to write it in a first-person view of an imaginary politician/tax paying citizen/Abercrombie-type place worker/etc, and have his reviews share your own.

Books that just say "my oppinion is such and such", unless written by a scholar or expert, are usually disregarded. you could do such things, but prepare to research your facts very thoroughly and expect little in return for your efforts.

but if a certain idea comes to mind, a way you want to write it, go for it. writers should write for themselves, not for public oppinion. go with your gut.

Thanks very much Davinox for all the input!

You are right, I am thinking now of an angle to come from that would be original and make people want to read and understand what I'm saying.

From the point of veiw of a person is one I hadn't thought of. That would take alot of thought, and I don't think I'm that good at writing fiction, but I'm going to experiment with that for a while...
