Stanton STR8-30 vs Numark TT-1650

hey guys...

i dont have that much money to spend on expensive TTs like Technics...

but i can afford TTs that are around 150-200 bux a piece... I got CD players, but i want TTs, coz i love vinyl (who doesnt, eh?)

so i did some research, and Stanton STR8-30 or Numark TT-1650 r the TTs that I liked withing the affordable price range...

can u tell me which ones r better? or if there's, in ur opinion, a better TT that are around 150-200 bux, please tell me the name, and a model... and ill check them out...

Also... I know Technics are the best turntables on the market, and they have been the best for a long long time... But, how different are they from the TTs i mentioned before? I mean, except special functions and stuff... Are the basics of them the same? or different?

If, for example I spun 10 tracks on Technics, and the same 10 tracks on Numark's, or Stanton's, would the quality of the transition be different?

well, thats what I wanted to know..

Thanks in advance for any info you can provide me with.

The differences bewteen the tts you mentioned and the technics:
-you have the dimmed platter on the technics withch makes it impossible for sounds to penetrate into the signal sent by the TT
-The torque = the power of the motor is higer with the technics
-A huge magnet under the platter of a technics turntable
-the pitch, 100%accurate
-A very low noise on the technics

=> it's just, quality.

If I was you, I'd think about what I wanna do with my TT

you want to be a scratcher: go for the STR8's
you want to be a techno dj: go for the 1650

don't even waste your time thinking about shit tables
just keep saving up and get the tech 12s
if you get the shit tables you'll outgrow them in 2-6 months
trust me, i bought shitty numark tables cause i wanted to start spinning right away
now i'm kicking myself for it, so i sold my shit tables and started a technics fund

It's true what shock says there... but, I understand, you're anxious to buy a TT... I used to be that too. But, You've choses mediocre turntables (not the best, but not the worst either) so, I don't think you'll outgrow them too fast. A sl1200 would of cource be alot better... but ya, money is a big problem

ya, I say the numark is better for electronic music, simple because of the S shaped tonearm.

I own the Stanton's. So far, I have yet to complain about it's performance or usability (Is that a word? lol). I haven't tried out the Numark...so I don't know what I'm missing. Give both of them a try, though.

One of my friends has the Stanton str-80's (I think that's the model). I've never really had a problem playing on them... But obviously it would be better to get the techs...

Since you already have cd players, what about investing in one turntable @ a time... That way you will be able to buy the better turntables. You could get one now and learn on that while you save for the other....

You can get Stanton STR8-80s for $200. Definitely buy those before the 30s. The Str8-30s are belt drives (I'm pretty sure), which means they have no torque and are useless.

Get the Numark TT-200s, I own a pair and am very happy with them. @~170-200 bucks a piece, they're a steal. Great torque, very well built decks. Much better than any other mid range decks I've tried. If the Tech 1200s are a 10/10, then I'd give the TT-200s a 8/10.

don't buy a pair of stantons or numarks...keep saving until you have enough money for technics (you can buy one tt at a time).if you can't be patient buy just one of the two you mentioned (i suggest the numark) and then save for a technics
peace

I agree with buying one at a time. I did that and now I have successfully saved and bought 2 tech's. I just bought a 1210 mk2 today for $370 on ebay, hardly used w/ hardly used Shure M44-7 cart. If you work, just save 2 pay checks, go on ebay, look for the Techs you like, check the sellers rating, if he is a good guy with nice looking stuff, buy it. Thats what I did.

The next piece to my puzzle is... Denon DN-S5000 CDJ *mmmmmmmmm - jizzes*
