I just bought Furious Angels (by Rob Dougan), and I'm curious to hear what other people think of this CD. Personally, it doesn't fit. The background music is very symphonic and epic, while the lyrics are bland, angst-fillen, scratchy sounding pop. They just don't match IMO. The instrumental versions are all very nice, but the lyrics just feel way out of place. I was expecting more songs like Clubbed To Death, and instead I get songs like I'm Not Driving Anymore (which mind you is great sans lyrics...wonderful instrumental version).
Overall, considering all the rave reviews the CD has gotten, I'm disappointed.

I have to disagree with the both of you... If you were expecting all the songs to be like clubbed to death then of course you are going to be disappointed with the cd. It's just like me buying chicanes album and expecting all the tracks to be like saltwater.

i think what people don't understand is that his music borders on classical music if not it actually is classical music. So people get really annoyed because the majority of his tracks are orchestral and thats not something they expect. The perfect example of this would be:

Also another thing what people don't know is that Rob has been around for quite some time, furious angels was released off the cheeky label back in 1998. I believe that each song is unique and individually polished to the most minute of scoring detail. It's pure genius... I have the upmost respect for his music and while not every song is a catchy hit, it's still one of the most pollished pieces of work I've heard.

Every piece on his CD has been worked on effortlessly it seems and it shows just by putting it in the CD player. The album really is a piece of art and beauty and will probably never age like all good things.

I was pretty surprised by his voice, and very pleasently so. While on the surface it's rough and lacks the pollish that he puts into his scores, it almost seems like a catalyst to those scores adding emotion to otherwise lifeless strings. I mean his voice isn't even on pitch sometimes but it fits so well that it doesn't matter... it's the sorrow, the pain, the anger, the nostalgia that matters and his voice does a perfect job of conveying these emotions clearly to the listener.

The songs are incredibly complex and very well made. I love all of Rob Dougan's work.
