recording to tape

hey all

ive got my mixer/tables hooked up to my home stereo
when recording mixes to tape, i get a lot of feedback on playback that i don't get when mixing live. it almost sounds like the cued track coming through a bit tinny even though my fader is set properly
any idea why it does this?

fader doesn't leak during the live mix, it only comes through on the playback it may be that im just not hearing the live leak but that would be quite a disaster since the mixer is brand new

leaking is quite normal, even on new mixers.

try this as a test: put a track on deck A and nothing on deck B, now listen to the cue of deck B and turn the gain and headphone up REALLY loud. You can almost always hear track A playing.
I wouldn't worry about it, but that's one of the reasons I always stop the cued track when there is a really quiet break in the main track. In situations like this you can even hear the DJ cueing and scratching the record in some livesets, and I'm pretty sure they have the fader on 0

if it ever helps anybody else it may be worth posting (but hopefully you are not a complete muppet like me)

i figured out what was causing the strange feedback.

i was listening to the tape in my car, which has a dolby hr button
i deactivated this and boom i had my mix they way god intended it

thanks to those who replied

goes to show that sometimes your problem can be solved as simply as pushing a button
