PINE BROOK, NJ, August 4, 2003 — Denon is introducing the new DN-S3000 professional tabletop CD/MP3 player with active turntable platter for real-time user interaction. The live motor-driven “active platter” — a world’s first from Denon — can be used to scratch, backspin, brake, search, and otherwise manipulate as if it was an analog turntable. To complete the authentic feel of analog scratching, Denon adds a clear vinyl disc with vinyl grooves on top of the included slip mat and slip-sheet. In addition, any 7" vinyl record can be installed on the
DN-S3000 by using the provided adapter, allowing DJs the freedom to use their favorite vinyl record for the ultimate analog turntable feel.
Designed with the professional DJ in mind, Denon’s new DN-S3000 combines many sought after features for a comprehensive and versatile scratching solution based on the critically acclaimed technology of Denon’s DN-S5000. The robust 7.5" motor-driven active platter allows the DJ to scratch and search (down to 1/75 second resolution) with true analog feel, while an onboard sampler provides up to approximately 15 seconds of recorded data. The 2-way scratch functionality allows the user to either scratch the currently playing CD/MP3 or the stored sampled data, which can be overlapped with the current CD playback. Furthermore, turntable platter effects such as Drag-S, Brake, Dump, Reverse, and real-time “active platter” scratching can be applied to both CD and MP3 files.
A revolutionary feature of the DN-S3000 is Denon’s proprietary MP3 File Search System, which allows the user to instantly access any MP3 file on data disc (with or without file folders). For data discs without folders, files can be searched by track number or alphabetically by file name. For data discs with folders, the user can search four different ways: File/Folder allows user to search by folder names categorized by genre; File allows search for files as they appear on the data disc (track number); Artist Name searches alphabetically by artist name; and Title Name searches alphabetically by title/song. In addition, the DN-S3000 features another world’s first from Denon, Next Track Reserve. Since you can store hundreds of MP3 files on one disc, Next Track Reserve makes it easy for you to “SLAM Mix” to another track of your choice on-the-fly.
For the ultimate in control and “feel” during live performance, a 100mm long stroke Slider with center click for playback speed control is provided, as well as a clear vinyl scratch disc that allows for the creation of customized slip mat design for added personalization. DJs can personalize their DN-S3000 by creating their own paper slip mat using a standard PC and printer. Users will also find convenience in the user-replaceable CD drive, enabling on-the-spot drive maintenance for zero downtime. Additional disc format support, including full MP3 ID3 Tag information (Artist, Album Name, Song Title), CD-R/RW, CDDA, and CD Text display give users a variety of playback options, while retaining standard Platter Effect and Memo Data functionality throughout. Utilizing Denon’s X-Effect control ports, users can further increase their control options, allowing shared Memo data between the DN-S3000 and a Denon
DN-D9000, DN-2600F, DN-S5000, or an additional DN-S3000. X-Effect enhancement also allows control of the DN-S3000 via Denon’s DN-X800 DJ Mixer.
Other DJ-friendly features include a Seamless Loop function with user-defined A-B points for CD, MP3 or Sampler playback with Scratch Disc adjustable A-B Trim/Move, Hot Start playback from the assigned Start Point Cue, and a Stutter Cue Play point. Giving the DJ unprecedented control across platforms, Memo data such as Cue point, Playback Pitch, Pitch Range, Pitch ON/OFF, Key Adjust ON/OFF, and Seamless Loop A-B data may be viewed, copied, and stored between two units for both CD and MP3 tracks. Additionally, ID3 tags are supported for MP3 files, which allows the user to view the Artist, Album, and Title of a particular file. A real-time Instant Start (0.02 seconds) playback mechanism and 20-second Shock Proof Memory ensure instant audio playback and uninterrupted performance. Pitch Control and Pitch Bend control is possible, as well as a Platter Hold function allowing Pitch Bend by the scratch disc of up to ±100%. 14 customizable preset functions are also available for tailoring functionality of the DN-S3000 to the individual DJ’s needs.
The DN-S3000 comes housed in a sturdy steel frame construction with steel top panel and features brushless motors for optimal performance and longevity. A highly visible FL Tube display provides optimum readability, and features an EOM (End Of Message) indicator. The unit also features recessed connecting terminals to avoid potential damage while in a DJ case, and a Power On Play function for playback setup when used with an external timer.
