I use Goldwave. I think it's best.

I use and love Cool Edit Pro 1.2a Takes time to learn how to use but incredibly powerful....there's very little u can't do. U name it. Beat detection (good for quick loops) and find next zero crossing for perfect clickless looping. VERY powerful! crossfader built in and so much that it's hard to remember all the fun stuff you can get away with.

what idon't like about goldwave is that you have to set like a time before you start recording
is it just me or am i dooing something wrong?
apart from that cooledit 1.2 is a good app

I have used a lot of audio editors, and i've found Sound Forge to be the best, with Steinbergs Wavelab comming in on a close second. The reason for me choosing Sound Forge is probably just a matter of small preference, since i had used that for a long time than wavelab, so u should try them both..

Peace

i think that cool edit is pretty good, better than sound forge cuz i've used sound forge forever and it uses sooooooooooooooooooooo much RAM when your recording, which makes the computer glitch...that sucks when your trying to make a mix...never used gold wave..i'll check it out...jp

I use all 3, actually. Each one has certain features that the other ones don't. So it depends on what I want to do as to which one I use.
