here we go again..any tips of making rolling bassline and stuff to go seamlessly

Reason:

I create a substractor, one osc. Cut the frequency down. Lots of delay and EQ. With these basic settings you can create nice basslines.

Just add an simple sequence and the delay will do its work. I will upload an *.rns later on.

personally i use cubase sx but lemme install reason tonight and check it out via rewire ;p

I have a rule I always go by when creating basslines....stay off the reverb, never put a verb on a bassline....since the bassline is suposed to drive the song on very distinct it gets fucked up if you use verb on the bassline....well at least that's my opinion about it

You'll find with the hennes and cold, scot project basslines that they are not just 1 sample. There are usualy 3 samples layered together to get that sound..

I use the Malstorm synth in reason for this.. 3 seperate machines, sine waves all the way

There is the bass(bottom) sample that starts at the same time as the kick... giving the kick more bottom end (the kick shouldn't have much bass in it), and with the right attact and decay settings give the body of that whooooomp sound. Then on the off beat (k---b---) is the heart of the bassline.. thats the sameple that has the volume to it. Quick attack and quick decay with some layers of distortion (warm and rough) and a heavy amount EQing. Nowthat reason has the new Scream 4 distortion pannel you can add that warmth to it with the tape distortion.. then add another scream 4 and get the gritty sounds going.. Also never forget your compression.. there is a shyte load on comp on this..

Alot of work, time and tuning to get it all sounding right... i hope this gives some insite

This one bellow is just 4 hours work and only using 2 synths.. not finished but you get the idea.. the kick is also original from rebirth338 and then messed up in soundforge.. if you would like some tips with the kick PM me.

reverb does not apply to basslines in general, but in Reason there's this "stereo echoes" effect which works very well! but the most important thing is indeed to EQ it right..

Actually it's quite normal to spend a few hours creating the bassline, why are you guys making fun of him?
It takes me also around that time to get a cool bass. For example check out the sample that I posted in the other thread, with the Scot Project-type bass...

Of course if you use a ready-made preset and just tweak one knob it's gonna be pretty fast. But it's worth spending some time on the bass because it gives character to the track.
