CD Decks

Has any1 got any advice which cd deck i should go for.

I've currently got a club standards setup that im using at home, technics & a pioneer mixer and im looking to get a cd deck, as a lot of old tunes are hard to get on vinyl nowerdays.

Ive noticed some have jog wheels, does that mean that you can use the jog wheel as if the cd was a vinyl and just move the jog wheel back and forward to cue.

Im trying to keep my setup to what you would find in most clubs, so if anyone knows what the standard cd player is, please let me know.

What model would you recommend?

Why would you choose DENON and not the Pioneer CDJ1000,
ive heard they are ment to be the dogs.

cause the CDJ1000s are way too expensive for what they really are.

and Denon have proven themselves over time.

Im probably looking at buying a single for now,
price isn't really a problem. I just have to wait
a few months and save dependent on the model i want.

I will add a second deck in the future, if i move onto
using cd all time. At the moment, Im happy with using vinyl
and just want to use the cd deck for hard to find tunes.

I would deffo like to have loop functions and possibly a sampler
on the cd deck, also savable cue points if possible.

I know the cdj has a memory card to save cues, does the denon have similar features???

Denon Vs Pioneer.
No Contest.
PIONEER WINS HANDS DOWN.

I learnt on a Denon but have been playing on Pioneers for the last year now.
If you want a single player and your on a budget the get yourself a Pioneer CDJ-500 II.No frills just a loop function.
No budget issues then go for the CDJ1000s.No Contest.

If you want a dual player the go for the CMX 3000.

The problem with the Denon's is that the lense only lasts for about a year and a half of regular club use before starting problems.Lenses on the Pioneer last upto four years atleast.
Secondly the jog wheel in Denons is small compared to Pioneers so you cant really use it so bend cause you cant get a feel for it which you can on Pioneers.

Keep in mind tha I am talkin bout the Denon 1800,2500,2100 & 2600.
I've heard the new DN-5000 is a "CDJ1000 Killer" but those who have used both say the 5000 dosen't come close to the 1000.

The world has woken up to Pioneers. The 1000 has become the industry standard.
Go wit the pioneers.

As with buying any equipment, get yourself to a shop and try it out. Go to a shop that will let you do some mixing with the player(s) you are thinking of buying, and at the end of the day, buy what feels right to you.

I always advocate try before you buy, but especially in this case as there isn't (IMO) a clear winner between Denon and Pioneer. Talk to a few (independent) shop owners too - they will probably be able to advise you on things like how many they've had returned over the last 6 months, what other customers think of them etc. which can all be useful advice.

In order of preference...(mine that is)

Denon S-5000
Denon Dn9000
Pioneer CDJ 1000mk2
Pioneer CDJ 1000
Denon 2600
Pioneer CDJ800
Numark Axis 8 or 9
eveything else...

I have used all of the above(except the new cdj 1000mk2) and nothing really compares to the new Denon's...There is so much you can do with them that no other player can touch... I use my Denon s5000 to recreate tracks not just play them.

As for the lens issue from above...The Denon2600 I used to have never had any problem with any part of it at all...(over 3 years of use) My new one's are going strong but only had them a few months.

The problem w/ the Pioneer gear is you're paying all this money for something with not that many features. What do the new 1000's do to warrant a $1149.00 price tag..for that price I could almost buy 2 Denon's.

Most clubs = Denon (unless Pioneer gave the club free equipment)

Go out and make your own decision (TRY the products)

Do they even make this model anymore????

These things used to be expensive.. What store stocks these still??
At this price range get Numark axis 8's - Alot more functions and probably cheaper than the ancient CDJ500.

Thanks for the help guys.

Ive managed to try a couple of the Pioneer cd decks out at one of our local music shops but not any of the denon products yet.

As your advice says - try before you buy and get the equipment that feels right to you.

I'll be trying a couple of the denon cd decks in the week.

Thanks for the help.
