Portable Headphones

Yeah yeah I know all headphones are protable but, i need to up grade my head phones coz im recording a lot of stuff (Vinyl, tape, livesets) onto my laptop and i need a good set of headphones so i can accurately edit, and EQ my recordings to an optimium level, before encoding/burning them off.
I dont wan't big arse DJ big daddy swallow your head professional job, but i would like an over-ear set that reproduces good bass and trebble sound but can still be plugged into a discman, and walk down the street without looking like im going to trip over my head
(something I can travel with). I know that with most audio equipment quality means $$$$$, but which do you recommend value for $$$$$ with nice sound.

You have a couple options for quality headphones at a moderate price level.

For closed headphone the Sennheiser HD25SP ($90us) would give you the best value. You will end up paying a bit more than open headphones for comperable quality, but you also get some isolation from outside noise. This makes them useable mixing and allows you to listen at more reasonable levels while in loud environments like traffic.

For open headphones you could get the Koss Sporta Pro($30us). They are solid all around headphones with excellent quality for what you pay. Also you can get the Koss Porta Pro's(50$us) fairly similar in sound quality to the Sporta Pro's but have a conventional style head band goes around the top of your head rather than the around the back like the Sporta's. The next logical step up from them being the Grado SR-60's ($70us) a bit more expensive but with even better sound, they still deliver a solid price to performance ratio.
