I agree 100% about the STUPID rules in the US, other than the smoking - I can understand that.
He pointed out SF and LA about the 2am stuff, but was wrong about the clubs closing at 2am. Most clubs do close at 2am, but the better clubs typically have an afterhours license which means they can basically stay open 24 hours a day if they want. The license is very expensive and takes a lot of dealings with courts and stuff to get it. He's played until 6am-7am here before. Just no alcohol between 2am-6am. There are clubs that reopen for late-afterhours at 6am have good DJs and sell drinks. The others just stay open all night and once 6am comes starts serving drinks again....but they are all smaller clubs. The big club here, 1015 Folsom, is usually open till 5-7am. If there crowd is kicking and the DJs are willing, they will stay open later. It happened here just a couple of weeks ago where 1015 was open until 9 or 10am and they reopened the bar for the first time in a long time.
The club on the rise, The Mezzanine, will have an occasional real late night and stay open to 6am....usually they are closed down by 5am, though.
Anyhow, a lot of the laws here in Cali are rediculous - they act like we have no control.
