Re: Vestax PMC-46MKII Rotary Mixer

How was the overall feel of it (sturdy knobs, etc), sound quality, and ergonomics? Did you find the 2 band EQ to be a hindrance for spinning house & trance? Since using a Rane MP2016/XP2016 combination, I've really become accustomed the build quaility... you can feel the craftmanship in all the knobs, dials, switches, etc.
I haven't decided yet, but I am leaning heavily towards a rotary mixer - I like the improved degree of control vs. faders.
Obligatory link to the mixer....
Cheers.
Afterthought... should I be considering any other rotaries in this price range? |
Well, the mixer has a very nice layout and knobs do have a very solid feel to them, but they weren't selling well at all, this particular model was actually the first mixer of the entire Vestax Line that we stopped carrying, eventually we stopped carrying Vestax completely, way too many complaints and worst of all, the replacement faders or other parts were becoming a real scarce.
I really like the Rane 2016 with XP2016 processor, for a little more money Vestax has a great rotary mixer the Premium R1:
retail USD $2799.95
for a moderate amount more and if you can afford what many call the best mixer, get the Allen and Heath XONE V6 with 6 dual stereo channels with switchable sources, inputs can also be configured internally to the line level, Tube Valves, ability to add on optional EQ expanders, All Penn and Giles components, and absolutely increadible sound output:
retail USD $4799.95
then again you can always go with Pioneer DJM3000 wtih rotary kit upgrade: USD $899.95 mixer and $179.95 upgrade kit...
Rotary Knobs
what the entire rotary upgrade kit looks like
Cheers...

Can't get too specific 'cause of the privacy issues, but a few of the PMC46MkII we sold, complaints were poor sound quality output, Poor dedication to Heaphones output. In general all Vestax complaints were not as good of sound quality output as one expected, channel Faders would break and no replacement Channel Faders available for a long period of time, no enough space between each channel Eq controls on multi channel Vestax Mixers, Very Poor headphone sound output and quality, and sound clipping on models equipped with instant EQ kill switches.
I don't think we had any complaints about Rane 2016 w/ XP module. FYI, I just remembered that everytime George Acosta spins at our Club RED @ LAEC in downtown Los Angeles, we break out the Rane 2016 with XP module.
Cheers...

they're a metallic finish to match the fader knobs...the stock ones are a dull plastic.
