I am planning a trip to Toronto and I need some advice?

I am planning on coming to Toronto for New Years and I need some suggestions on where to stay, things to do, which clubs are the best and anything else you can think of to help a first time visiter to the city have the best time possible.

I guess as far as where to go for New Year's eve will probably depend on who's playing where, but I would like to go to more than one club while I am there, and I would also like to see what else Toronto has to offer as far as things to do.

I do have one question as well. What is the age limit for getting in the clubs in Toronto? Is 18+, 19+, or 21+ like hear in the states? My girlfriend is only 19 and I would like to bring her along, but not if she has to stay in the hotel while I go out and have a good time.

Thanks in advance for any and all suggestions.

Most (nearly all) events are 19+ and some are 16+. Your girlfriend will be fine.

New Year's Eve

System is a nice place in the club district which plays dark beats. The Guv is a huge place that you should also check out. The Guv is a little more trancy, and it has the most wicked light show I haveever seen. Toronto is known for having great EDM so when you go clubbing you'll have plenty to choose from. If you're a drinker, do the late night/early morning chow in Chinatown after clubbing (around 3am) -- it's kind of like a Toronto tradition. If you're going to eat dancing vitamins it might be fun to still go to Chinatown for dim sum after a marathon dancing session in the morning or early afternoon (the Comfort Zone is open late if you need to dance during serious after hours time). In any case, during the day you should make sure that you visit all the different ethnic communities and different neighbourhoods. If there is lots of snow go tobogganing in Riverdale Park. You should also go skating in City Hall or Harbourfront. In Little Italy there are plenty of nice cafes to bide the afternoon hours (Cafe Diplomatico is esp. famous). Kensigton market is a nice eccletic microcosm of the city. Bloor Village/The Annexes has a lot of nice bars and pubs. The gay village is also home to some really cool clubs that play sick beats. And of course you must take a walk down Spadina starting from Bloor and ending at the lakeshore. Toronto is a great place. I miss Toronto. And 19 is just a suggested drinkingng age; no one really cares. Have fun in TO!

Viva

How could I forget about Viva?! Actually, the reason is b/c Viva is in the burbs; regardless Viva is worth checking out. Indeed, I spent last New Year's Eve at Viva. It was totally cool. My only beef was that the party ended too early (6 am).

For New Years partying here isn't that great.... The Guv is really big, but that night is pretty much commercial radio and crap like that all night. It's not good for Trance on NYE. There's usually smaller parties happening that weekend that are alot better.

When you say the clubbing district, where is that in Toronto, and do you know of any good hotels in the area? Thanks for everybody's assistance. We are really looking forward to visiting Toronto.

The clubbing district is centred on Richmond and John (just south of the City TV/Much Music buildings). The Guv is a bit east of the main entertainment district (the theatre district is just west of the clubbing area). There are a few good cheap youth hostels in the area: Spadina Hotel and a few by Hostelling International (one of which is directly behing the Paramount). For actual hotels you may want to try the Sheraton (Richmond and York, just east of the main club district) or the Chelsea on Chestnut St. (which is just north of the Sheraton, beside City Hall). The Holiday Inn on King and Peter is also a good spot. Good luck!
