Carts - tell me all

well newb question, could someone give me a run down on carts and styli, what the numbers mean, and a few recommendations based on performance vs. cost, or just must haves, thanks

two basic sorts-

the sort that attaches to headshell- like stanton 500s which are pretty much standard fit from the factory on a lot of stuff- good general purpose carts

then there are the concorde types- which bolt directly onto the tonearm.
and do away with having to screw them to the headshell

Personally i use Ortofon concordes (nightclub S model) in a professional capacity and cannot fault them- same goes for most of the ortofon range to be honest.
Although i do sometimes use stanton 500s as well- as long as you arent scratching these are fine too.
