I was wondering, what I need in order to record my live performances to MP3. I have Cool Edit 2K, a PIII with enough RAM and HDD. I just dunno what is the best way to do it.

The only method I could think of is buying a Y-splitter cable for 1/8" jack (comp Line-In) to RCA L/R audio (amp) and press record while spinning. Is there a better (more efficient) way of doing this?

you just have to connect your mixer,turntables the exact way you connect them to your amplifier.But NOW you connect the cable you used to connect to your amplifier to your line in of your soundcard.YOu only have to buy another cable.A female tulipplug (red & white) that will convert your tulipplug to one that will fit in your soundcard.Then you start Cool Edit Pro,press record and VOILA!!

When your done save it to WAV format.Convert the WAV to MP3 with Audiocatalyst for example..And your mix is FINITO!!

Don't I need to AMP the signal before I shoot it through the line-in pipe?

you mean the wire thats attached to your turntable??
if so...you have to connect that wire to your mixer....But thats obvious?

I'd also suggest getting a compressor. The very first mix I tried recording, I didn't know the importance of one, and I kept bringing in tracks louder or softer than the previous one. The compressor helps you by limiting the signal going into the computer so once you get to a certain volume, it's impossible to get any louder. So, if you set your mixer higher than this level, you can max out the volumes and it still can only get as loud as the track previously playing. They're usually less than $100 at any music store and it will make you sound a hell of a lot better!
