wwwwwwwaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyy too many factors to consider doing comparrisons. Aren't you moving to San Francisco Area? (sorry norcal vs. SoCal thing) I have a long time friend up north who is Partner of an Insurance Brokerage called NorCal Insurance Services, www.norcalinsurance.com and he can set you up with insurance pretty cheap, they work with a lot of different insurance companies and he'll get you best quote possible.

let me know by pm if you're interested and I'll give you his cell#...

nah... i am not going to reregister my car, as i wont really be there that long. plus i have a shitload of points which makes it risky changing insurance. but i was just curious cause jersey has the highest rates in teh country so i just wanted to see how they compare in general out there supposing i moved there more permanently.

Hmmm, I wonder if you get a California DL, would your record start as new, nothing, zilch, nada, null, clean slate, perfect record or would your points from EastCoast carry over???

Perhaps something for you to look into, also an FYI, if you are in Cali for more than 10business days, by law(vehicle Code) you have to register your vehicle in California.

I just got a huge discount so I pay about $400 less every six months. Now it's $140 a month or so for full coverage since I have a brand new car. Saves me quite a bit of cash.

Pays to know people in the insurance biz.

interesting.... why do they do that? i'll have to look into it. i am sure insurance rates are going to vary depending whether i live in the city or not. i am not even sure if i am bringing my car. if i can get them to lease me a car for 8 months i will do that.

Well if you are moving to San Francisco, you actually won't need the car there, transportation in SF is prolly the best in the country, buses, cable cars, bart system almost to everywhere around town you'd want to get to. And if you think parking is bad in New York/Jersey, start saving money for parking garages or parking tickets which no kidding, in some cituations are cheaper than parking garages,

i have to have a car because i will be commuting to both redwood city and vacaville to work. when i look for a place to live i wont pick somewhere that doesnt have offstreet parking. so i might not even live in the city because of that.
