No you don't...check the Amatuer Forum, they remix big time artist all the time for personal use...
The artist would kick your ass if you would happen to sell your remix to people though...
BUT it's ok i'm sure...

you can remix whatever you want...the problem comes in selling it. if you remixed say a pvd tune for your own use that is just fine, but you can't sell it to other people without the labels approval...which means that they'll be some paper work involved hehehe. anyway, people remix tunes all the time and send them to artists. you can send a version of it to any artist you want, it doesn't have to be the original...just as long as you don't SELL them hehehe. it would just be an unofficial mix or a bootleg or something.

If I remember correctly, you can remix an artist's track w/o permission only if it's for personal use. If you want to release it w/ a label for example, then you'd need permission.

yeah you can definitely do that. i can remix tiesto and send a copy to Jon O'Bir if i want or Oakenfold whoever i want. its just a means to help promote your sound. it would however be curtious to send a copy to the original artist too if you can hehehe if you do find someone that likes it...they will help push for it to be released.
