Would you start buying vinyl b4 u get turntables? and Are the slipmats that you can buy from MoS and Gatecrasher etc of any quality? or should u just use factory?

Well J....I'd buy vinyl before getting turntables if it's something that I really liked because it won't be available forever. also, that way, you would have something to play when you do get your tables. As far as slip mats go....I suppose they're just as good...don't know for sure. I've always made my own. Just go to any fabric store and get yourself a good piece of heavy felt in the color of your choice, then cut it to the size of a record, poke the hole in the middle and there you have it.What I've also done, which is a little more involved and you have to be more careful when making is...take 2 pieces of felt that are cut the same and 1 piece of thin card board cut the same. Spray one side of the cardboard with spray adhesive and carefully place one of the pieces of felt on it. Let it dry and then do the same on the other side of the cardboard. Be real careful not to get any of the adhesive on any of the felt that will be exposed. That could fuck up your vinyl. But if done right, you'll have your self some good slipmats....in the color of your choice.

Well J_Spot...as far as mixers go, I guess it depends on if you want a pro model or just something you're gonna use at home. Do you want rotary or slide controls? As far as knowing way too much...you gotta remember, I've been in this biz since 1980....and after that long let's hope I know something. I have to say, though, I think I'm learning just as much from everybody here.....something new everyday.

May I ask why you would need a 4 channel mixer ? If you intend to hook up 2xCD Decks and 2xTurntables you can do that with a 2 channel mixer, the only thing you'd have to do is flip a switch to select between phono (turntable) and line (cd) inputs.
BUT if you really insist on 4 channels, the Citronic Pro 10 seems to be quite affordable. Now personally I would not recommend it but a lot of clubs seem to be using that one. Other than that, Tascam X9 looks very interesting, as competition to Pioneer DJM-600 (IMO the tascam is definitely the better mixer having the choice between the two). But I suppose those are out of your pricerange, costing around $1800 CDN.

Ive decided that I know nothing. ABSOLUTLY nothing. A 2 chanel mixer would work quite well. And if there are enuf inputs, then I can switch from line to phono..which makes even more sense(then I dont have to worry about problems mixing from the wrong chanels!) hmm.. ok then.
Now I need a good 2 chanel mixer(for myself) with full kills. Id PREFER(not insist) on rotary controls..and all the other normal things.

well..a VCD is a video CD. Quite boring to tell you the truth. You can umm...well mix, cut bands, change the EQ and thats about it. No scratching, changing pitch or anything. Just mix from song A to song B. Very very boring, and very very easy

I'm in serious market for getting some new turntables and I was going to get some Technic 1200s but after reading your post I'm wondering if the Denon DP DJ151 would be a better bet. Most likely I'll end up getting the 1200s but I'm still shopping around and curious.
