id say theres more tribal stuff going on in prog house (ie breaks), but overall the difference aint that big nowdays as it seems the two genres are more or less merged... but i guess thats just my pow.

Not really a clear difference, but typically it's the melody and extended use of synths/strings, while focusing less on the rhythm (bass & drums) that makes something "trancey".

Ok, unless you want to be a freak about it, prog trance and prog house have very few differences, so it's not even worth trying to classify tunes as either. Just call it all prog.

Galapidate: agreed!

Who cares about the genre anyway, as long as it's good?

Obligatory Genre Nazi scream of frustration:

AAAARRRGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

... had to get that out.

Search + "Progressive Trance" = lots and lots of neat reading.
Edit: Here's a good one

Tech house is stuff like Bryan Zentz - D-Clash and all of the Tomaz vs. Filterheadz productions. Carl Cox spins a ton of it.
