My current ones are shagged, blown, whatever u wana call it so suggestions for a new setup would be nice. i dont wana spend that much as i rarely get to use them coz of the tv and people sleeping and all that, but i cant see the point in buying a shit pair just for the sake of it. i have an audigy sound card so the output sound should be mint.

pc speakers are wank. whats the point in them? none. if u have a stereo with line-in, just hook it up thru that. then it will sound good and the only money u have spent is the £5 for the right wire.

Depends on what you use your pc for the most..

mp3's are compressed sound anyways so no need spending loads on quality speakers as the mp3's dont have the quality to justify them

gaming - get some 5.1 surround sound speakers, normally a medium sized sub with 5 small speakers that can be mounted onto walls

otherwise goto richer sounds, and get your self a amp and a set or 2 of some hifi speakers

gash off jon granted some mp3's sound wank, but all levels of compression above 160k have nearly .wav quality anyway

Id disagree about mp3s being poor quality .. 98% of my mp3s are 192k which is scene standard .. with some 256k and some 160k from 98/99 when grps first emerged and they sound fine to me even at high volume ..

If anything id recommend u get at least a 2.1 setup .. the subwoofer really makes the difference .. try and get some that dont have low powered satellites either ..

Depending on how much u have to spend of course .. I always wanted the klipsch promedia but in the end went for the cambridge soundworks 2.1s and only due to a faulty subwoofer blowing the fuse continually did i get a replacement 5.1 system instead ..

I got an audigy soundcard too .. a few possibles below ..

Logitech Z-340 2.1 Speakers - 33 Watts -> £35ish inc vat
Logitech Z-540 4.1 Speakers - 40 Watts -> £50ish inc vat
Creative I-Trigue 2.1 3300 Speakers - 43 Watts -> £75ish inc vat
Creative Megaworks 2.1 250D - 300Watts -> £145ish inc vat
Logitech Z-560 4.1 Speakers - 400 Watts -> £155ish inc vat

my point is spending money on expensive speakers just to play mp3's is a bit over kill, though i spent all of last year living with a hifi freak... when i finially get my setup imm geting a seperate amp and a home cinema speaker setup.

Wank?? No way. PC speakers can be soooo much better than stereo speakers. I've got Cambridge Soundworks FPS1600 Four-point Surround Sound speakers and sub, which cost me £70, and they sound better than the speakers on my dads £500 Technics CD player. Figure that one out??

If I were you Coup, i'd get a new sound card for your PC (a Sound Blaster Audigy 2 to be precise) and buy a set of 6.1 surround sound speakers to go with the card. Christ knows how much it all costs, but it'd be far more worth it than spending the same money on a new CD player to hook up to your PC.

A) i hardly get to use my speakers, its just nice to have them there for that one day a month or so the house ends up empty and i can blast music.

wtf is wrong with an audigy for playing purposes? the one model down and was released like a year ago, i hardly think im gona notice the different or push an a2 to its potential unless i use it for more than just music playing.
