listening to a track in a live set, then on its own

im sure ppl will agree with me on this, but dont u hate it when u listen to a live set, take tiesto @ the o for example, when i first herd that i fell in love with raphie b - massive which many others did, and then after i listened to it a few times i found massive on mp3, but when i listened to it it was really slow! coz in tiesto's set, he speeded up tracks like members of mayday and massive and u love them, so u get the mp3 and its really slow!! i no theres not much that can be done but its very annoying! whenever i wana listen to either them i load my set up and listen to them in that, coz the mp3's are really slow compared and it u dont really like it as much, am i making sense? hope! lol!

Yep, there was a thread similair to this recently.

I agree with you, it happened in Tiesto's set Trance Energy 2000 with Arrakis - The Spice, which was jacked up quite a bit, then when I imported the original it was slow as hell!

I think what happens is whatever you hear first, you fall in love with, and then when you hear the slower original, it's a bit of a shock, and you don't like the track as much as before because of that fact! This doesn't happen in all cases though of course

With Rank 1's "Such Is Life" I was listening to the Trance Energy Live rip for ages, then I heard the vocal version and I almost threw up for some reason! I guess I was too used to the non vocal off the live set...Know what I mean?

I agree with you, but maybe there is a "liveset-factor" - track played live includes more bpm and sounds for the crowd and not to listen to some hidden sounds, if you sit and listen @ home in your headphones - you pay attention not to the beats but to the music itself. Maybe i'm wrong...

in members of mayday - 10 in 1 (pvd club mix) i dont remember where i heard it.... m8 be the PvD - Live at mayday... and i feel inlove with this track!!.. and then i downloaded it in mp3.. and it wasn't all that good like at the liveset.. it happends many times, cause the dj'z sometimes speed up the track or play it while mixin it with another song..

But 10IN01 from Dream Dance 20 (Paul van Dyk mix there) sounds similar to the liveset version

Sometimes I use Cool Edit 2000 to pitch a track a few percent, it makes some tracks sound a lot better. The tracks in Scott Bonds Massive set were pitched up to 7 percent. Usually I pitch tracks about 3 percent.

as those of you that listened to one of my mixes know, I like my music fast. I sometimes use the pitch more than plus 8%, which is possible if you modify your technics.
But if you just have the pitch problem when listening to mp3s, why don't you use traktor or some other dj program instead of winamp to play your tracks. That way you don't have to fool around with the original mp3 and can listen at any speed you want. You can even make whole livesets faster.
Just a thought....

That was the excellent Marco V remix! I want that so bad, but apparently Marco V thought it was average and never went ahead with additional presses...I hope he changes his mind!

there are loads of programs around that will change the pitch of an mp3, thing is, you are right it is so difficult to make it sound the same as in a live set. not only do crowd noises effect it, but djs often play with tracks not just let them spin through
