Just recived my Barton 2500 .. here is some info!

For those who are looking for a new CPU, look no further, Barton 2500 is the chip for you.
I used to have (till today) an Athlon XP 1700 which I ran at 2.2Ghz wich minor vcore buump, but today when I recived my Barton 2500, I poped it in and it currently runs at 2.3GHz and recognized as an Athlon XP3200!!
Im still gonna try to take it higher and make sure everything is stable, but this chip is THE SHIT!! I paid 70 bucks for an Athlon XP3200, and SiSoft Sandra shows that my chip rapes a P4 3Ghz
Damn Im so happy!

are u using anything to regulate the temperature?
I don't remember where i saw this but there's a video of some guys who overclock a 3ghz to 8ghz (or was it 18?) and used dry ice to keep it running for about 3 minutes, then boom, dead chip

I use an SLK800A + SFII as cooling, and so far it keeps it a cool 40

but anyways, no.. there is no way you could get 8 ghz with dry ice. people struggle to get 4.5 ghz with liquid nitrogen. link plz?

afaik, dry ice is -73C and liquid nitrogen is around -46C (or is it -123?) correct me if i'm wrong.

btw, does anyone have a link that explains to me WHY exactly cpus get hot when you overclock them to like 8 ghz?

I think dry ice is around -100f and liquid nitrogen is around -321f.

You just got to the bios and set everything up, as for cooling I use SLK800A + SmartFan II.
I just benchmarked, and my XP2500 was by a mile faster then a P4 3.06GHz

what do u mean u just set it up?

settings? did u change the FSB from 333 to what?

I know multiplier is unlocked to 12.5 so u get 2800+.

but with 3200+, I wanna know the FSB, multiplier and Voltage, also the clock and type of RAM.

thanx.

WEEELLLL... *makes cup of tea*

hehe

it is actually rather simple: The problem is caused by capacitance in the junctions.

Since the chips are digital there are only two legitimate values: 0 and 1. Of course in your chip this would translate to 0V or 1.8V (or whatever your core voltage is). Each time any value in your chip changes from a 0 to a 1 or vice versa, you need to 'instantly' drive the voltage from 0 to 1.8V or the other way around.

If you junction was a logic 0, 0V, and needs to be a logic 1 now, you need to provide enough charge to 'fill' the capacitor.

When you need to move charge, you create a current. As you remember from your physics class P (power dissipated) = I^2 * R (square of current times resistance). If you dissipate power, you generate heat, just like your electric stove would.

As you increase the chip speed, you decrease the time, which is alloted for the charge to fill or discharge the capacitance. Therefore, you need higher currents at higher speeds. Which translates into a higher power consumption and power dissipation.

hope that helps, if it is NOT clear, I will try to find you an article in english.. the last one I had was in hardcopy and in german

Greg
