Any suggestions regarding Sony MDR-500s?

To explain a little, I have a pair of Behringer HPX-2000s that are absolutely awesome...for use at home. Not a great club choice at all due to their open design.

I'm getting to the point where I want to start chasing after playing out at the odd club night, and need a pair of phones to get me started in that direction. Obviously I will be making the tough decision for roughly $200 between Sennheisers/Sonys/Pioneers/Technics at some point, but I'm potentially looking for a stopgap choice.

I haven't had a chance yet to drop by the local Sony store with a CD to put the MDR-500s through their paces, so can anyone comment on their experiences with them?

Here is the short version of the long and ugly link to the Sony store for the MDR-500 model

If you have any other suggestions for entry level club phones, please let me know.

Thanks!

having done the same and bought some 'stop gap' hadphones and had them break in the middle of a night (several pairs) i would recommend you save a bit more and go for the pro ones straight away.
Save a little more and get the sony 700s....much better...
Im not going to start another headphone war here...

[cue loads of posts, blah blah, crap, etc etc.... ]In my experience there is no point getting cheaper phones- one of the few things you cannot skimp on

I agree with the point that there is no point getting cheaper phones for club use, although I wouldn't recommend either the Sony 500s or the 700s - they both share the very same crack-prone hinge design, and the 700s are even more likely to break than the 500s, because the 700s are much heavier than the 500s (and thus cause more strain on those flimsy hinge covers).
