is it legal to make and sell sample CDs

Am I legally allowed to record samples off of synthesizers that I own, package them as a refill or regular wavs, burn them on a CD and sell it?

Bit of a gray area that 1, but i think (could be wrong tho) that the copyright would still belong to the company that made the synth, havin said that (this is why its a gray area) if you have tweeked the hell out of the presets and made new patches then you should own that sound (being that you made it)and be able to do what you want with them

Don't know if this helps any?

Abs

actually when you buy a synth you buy the rights to the sounds you make. Dont think you can see the patches though.

Its like a synth is a violin or something. Its an instrument so sounds you make are yours. even if the patch is on the synth.

Of course you can. Absynth, that's like saying if you bought a set of drums, you couldn't make samples off that because the company that made the drum kit owns the sounds.

I say, sample away. And when you're done, send some free coppies my way

synths is not a problem, but watch out with sampled content!

Roland's Dance JV expansion board had to be taken off the market, because it featured samples that were takes from commercially available tracks.

Just call it the "SuperDuperNova" refill to be safe.
