I'm thinking of spinning a progressive, uplifting, hard trance. I guess I'm wondering what records did everybody here start off with.

I would suggest finding any two records that begin and end with a kick drum. Those are by far the easiest to mix. Once you get better, you can do songs that begin with what I like to call an "intro tune". They have this tune going on for 8-16 measures and then the beat starts. Once you get a good ear for where a beat is in a song with no beat, then go on to that stuff.
