The original is a true classic in trip-hop catagory. As I put as much expectation to this remix, I get quite equivalent disappointment back. It sounds to me that they didn't put much effort in enhancing the structure and progression, but replacing a typical stable bassline on the original riffs to make it a 4/4 beat track instead. It's still a very nice track because the original is so damn everlasting classic.
the live version of "Roads" on Portishead's PNYC Live disc is possibly the most powerful and moving female vocalist song I've ever heard. if you've never heard it, find this cd and listen to that song, a perfect example of emotional expression through vocals, unbelievable!
that being said, there's actually another song which samples "Roads". it's featured on Dave Seaman's GU Melbourne, disc 1, song 11. it's:
Guy Gerber & Sahar Z - Kenny's Back (original mix) [Whoop recs]
check it out for an awesome use of Portishead's "Roads"

woo.. its been a long time i never heard a track from portishead. i remember recalling my last track was Paul Weller's Wildwood, a remix by portishead. A very deepdub, leftfield style. i must check that out

Heard it live last thursday, very smooth tune, altho it doesn't really do much other than add a tribal groove to the already blissed out guitar and vocals, which are so damn good on their own that the result would be bliss regardless.
