Newb to Trance EQ/ help

Ive never really got past drums and a bassline because my Cpu was so poor but now Ive updated Im able to have enought Cpu to actualy make some trance leads, as Ive never really been here before I find Im a complete newb to it.

No matter what I do its either too hissy or muddy, and the sound is very sharp but I guess thats because Im using a Softsynth (Albino in Fruity4)
anyway here's the Barthezz theme I tryed to rectreate as a learning example, its sounds really shit and shitter when not in the mix is there any obvious thing I need to do?

Okay, the trick to these types of melodies is in the velocity. Basically, the midi file should look like it has three levels. (I'm assuming here, cos I don't have this file). The bottom two levels will make the sounds that is just going up and down continually. The top level is the one that makes the melody sound like "on the move". It is the bit you have all by itself at the end.

You need to have the bit that just modulated up and down quiter than the top level. So what you can do is lower the velocity levels of the lower two levels of notes. then link velocity to volume so that they play softer. If you synth does not allow this, then do them seperately so that the bottom two rows have their own synth with a lower volume and the top row of notes has another synth (same patch) but with a higher volume. This will help the melody stand out more.

Next, more reverb on the synth.
Maybe a little more amp release as well. With these types of melodies, it will give the appearance of a pad in there as well if done correctly.

Hope that helps. I've never used Albino, so I can't say anything specifically relating to that synth.
