Read This! PLEASEEEE! Recording HELP!!!! I'm going nuts herre!

Alright...i've read other posts about this and have even posted one myself before but i dont know what the hell is wrong with me or my computer that i'm just not able to record myseflf!! I've been trying to do this for over 2 month now so pleeeeaase help me and... you know what..... i dont care --> explain this to me as if you were talking to a freakin 3-year old hahah cuz i HAVE to know if im doing this irght cuz i cant take it anymore!

I was told i needed a special cable to hook up my mixer to my computer.. So i bought a cable thata has 2 RCA ends (a red and a blue)which is connected tomy mixer, and at the other end, it has a normal "head-phone-like" plug (the only differnce is that it has black stripes instead of green like headphones do).... So i plugged this end to my computer (which has 4 possible holes: a blue one, a red one, a green one where my PC speakers are, and the black one). I plugged it into every single hole and it doesnt work! I've tried a lot of softwares already but i cant even hear anything! and no, its not in mute.. it doesnt seem to be in-taking the sound coming from my mixer... do any of you have ny idea what is wrong?

PLLEEEEEEEEASE help me i've been trying to record myself for months now!!! please give me some ideas/programs i can use.... and again.... EXPLAIN VERY CLEARLY PLEASEEE HAHAHAHAHA

Step 1) Plug the headphone jack end into the blue hole on your sound card.

Step 2) Go to volume properties (should be a little speaker in your taskbar, if not go to control panel -> sounds and audio devices -> advanced)

Step 3) Go to option -> properties -> recording

Step 4) Check off Line-In under the recording mixer, put this all the way up (you may have to adjust this later so that the audio doesn't clip)

Step 5) Record in whatever you use

1. get yourself a legit copy of SoundForge 6.0 from Kazaa. Thats for starters. install the software. start it up and in the menu bar select "options", then select "preferences" and click on the "wav" tab. the section marked "record" should have your sound card selected, if not, select it. then click "OK" and get back to the main screen. click "new" to get ready to record
2. im not sure about that cable, but i got a regular old dual RCA to dual RCA cable, and a RCA to Mini Stereo adapter. Plug the RCA cable into the adapter and the adapter into your soundcard (one of those holes) make sure your mixer end is in fact plugged in to an out port or a "record" or "tape" port
3. start your turntables or cd players or whatever and you should start to hear music coming from your pc speakers (that is if the speakers are turned up) if not, try a different port in the back. One of them should work...once you hear the sound, you are ready...

just make sure you use the "record out" output from your mixer so you get a nice clean signal that's uneffected buy the master volume control on your mixer.

if you are going to get a "legit" copy from kazaa you might as well get sound forge 7.0 (now made by sony). make sure you connect the computer to the tape/record/booth on your mixer and not the main output. you still will have to turn down the volume for the line in on your comp. turn it so that when you are recording in sound forge the wav never tops off...then you ger clipping and it sounds like crap. i record from my mixer on to my comp all the time. it took me a while to get all the bugs worked out but now it works fine. good luck

dont waste you money. you can do it just fine without that. that is just an amp for headphones. as long as all the cables are good and you have good connections you can record onto your comp with no audible noise.

I dont think the headphone pre-amp will do much because your mixer is a already a pre-amp.

If the MASTER OUTPUT from the mixer produces the same 'distortion' as the "RECORD OUT", then maybe you should either try checking the LINE IN volume within WINDOWS (or whatever Operating System software you use), or try new recording software? or... maybe buy soundcard that has 1/4" inputs (the fat TRS [Three Ring Sleeve] type plug)... cuz the 1/8 headphone plug input is knows to have the most distortion....

I had some problem with recording before, so i changed the recording software long time ago and began using this 5$ software made from Magix (audio studio generation 6) , and I didnt have the problem anymore...

I use a new sound card now (ECHO MIA 24/96) and cooledit pro2 software.
soundz cool to me....
I plan to start using pro tools.

Oh... If the LINE IN volume within the Windows Operating System, or the INPUT volume on whatever software you are using is set too high, you may get the distortion when recording.
